Operation: Golden Retriever

I found my new Wagon.

It was in Arizona.

The Mission: Fly to Phoenix, retrieve Grandma's Gold.

OPERATION: Golden Retriever.

Talked my friend into getting a flight and coming with me!

Caught a flight at 6am, barely. Took forever to get through security.
296.jpg

297.jpg

Randall (the owner) picked us up at airport in the wagon. Bird poo hood.
298.jpg

The wagon was exactly as describe: Bird poo and all. Operation Golden Retriever is a go...
299.jpg

The bank didn't open till 9am, we had a 1/2 hour to burn. Time for a bath- don't want to be caught rolling dirty.
300.jpg

301.jpg

It was immediately apparent we were rolling in a fish bowl/magnifying glass. Towels = Sunscreen.
302.jpg

303.jpg

Somewhere in Arizona. Stop for phone calling; tell the wives "We are on my way across the desert in an 1987 Honda Wagon"
304.jpg

305.jpg

had to stop and pick up a cooler.
306.jpg

Driving immediately puts the kids to sleep. #wagonlife
307.jpg

The stereo system. The one wrapped in the towel above the radio. Wagon speakers are blown and the radio doesn't really pick up radio stations.
308.jpg

Somewhere in Utah.
309.jpg

I got a break- tested out the Lounge mode on the wagon
310.jpg

Made it to Colorado- Only 4 hours and a few mountain passes till we are home!

mission complete

I know 4th gens across the pond do the "lounge mode", I dont think USDM 4th Gen wagons do for some reason.

    SO MANY plans!! stay tuned!

Terrible. Mostly it was fine, but Vail pass, at about 11pm was brutal. 30-40 max speed. killer. Semis honking at me and trying to run me off the road.... Also my hazzards didnt work?? I will investigate that.

I believe only you guys over sea's shuttles will do the "lounge mode"... I think anyways. I could be wrong.

The owner- Randall- saw that I was looking for a 3rd gen wagon on Instagram and asked me if I was interested in his. The more I looked at it and the more I looked around- the more appealing this one became. Its incredibly well taken care of for the year. I like that.

When I got it home I detailed the inside and a little on the outside. More on that later.
    2.jpg

o ya, also installed my dome light.... I kept it from my other wagon.

Went through the folder Randall gave me and came across a bunch of cool things- like the original sale price and other things...

I think that doesn't matter, wagons are the same and interior are the same. Just need to take off the headrest, push the seat to front and lay down the back and you are good to go! (This is for those who didn't know this) ;)

Just saw, that was also described in pictures, but twice is better :D

false. USDM *4th gen wagon seats just don't slide far enough forward... I cant explain why... it just doesnt.

So I did a little seat repair... driver side bottom seat is getting pretty rough... Things got out of hand quickly...

    Sew up holes
    10.jpg

Then I started ironing on khaki iron-on patches... Then i burnt a hole in my seat with the iron- because the fabric is paper thin. and the iron is hot..... Sooooooooo there's this.
    11.jpg

Also took wagon into have it professionally detailed/cut/buff... And have it tinted. 3M stopped making bronze tint, but the guy at the shop knew the 3M dealer for Denver and managed to dig some up some where...?
    12.jpg

Its 15% bronze tint. Actually a little darker than what I was anticipating... but I like it... Its hard to show the bronze-ness in photos.

Wagons are not all the same, 90-91 USDM wagons had auto-belts, with a completely different floor pan design then wagons elsewhere like Europe and Japan (even Canada) ;)

Bill... Love the new wago! Can't wait to see where you go with it. Road trip looked epic, I wanna do that one day in my wagon as well.

    Cheers!

    Wagon passed emissions!
    78.jpg

Parts came in from Thailand? or the Netherlands? or where ever?
    79.jpg

Trixie to find bown console! needs some cleaning up still... and its missing the lid- like the black part should have a lid on it?
    80.jpg

purple corners!! These require a little modification to work on USDM wagon... They are bigger than USDM. They dont have the black bar on the bottom of them- if that makes any sense? And there are a few more subtle/trixie difference's but no one cares.
    81.jpg

purp... I think i may need to tint my bumper lights..... or get clear? do they make clear?
    82.jpg

    83.jpg

And this weeks Wagon Wednesday challenge via instagram... #alleywagon
    84.jpg

and I saw this on my way to work so i rode up on the sidewalk and took a pic...
