Have any of you built your stock motor ?

Like the title says ... Has anyone built up there stock motor or just swapped something else in ? If so, what mods have you done ?

  • Lots of people have built stock motors in civics (but not necessarily wagons). Check out d-series.org for more info. I'm currently building a high compression motor for my 4wd wagon.

Pretty good parts for the cash. Use PM7 Honda pistons from a DOHC ZC for a boost in compression without spending serious cash. You can find them for cheap.
  • Also check out bisimoto.com, he seems to know his stuff and has excellent customer service from what I can tell. He'd rather know your setup and grind a slightly different cam for it than sell you a off the shelf stage cam.

So has anyone built anything that they can talk about ?
  • Well, in the next month or two I might be able to talk. I have a set of p29s that I got with a motor (this motor will later be used in my hatch with a turbo) and I have a d16a6 block. I'm claying a y8 head tonight and probably an a6 head on the a6 block. If I can't mill either of the heads enough to give me the compression I want then I shall rebuild the a6 block completely and put the p29s in.

Speaking of my spare block, it has 196k miles and still has visible crosshatch. :P

with all those mods, how much HP are you pulling?
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
its not quite finished. im not shooting for big numbers its my autocross car so the turbo is quite small.
  • more tq. than hp, and a TD04!!!!

i might upgrad to a hybrid t3/t4 i think it will still spool good for me and still be able to make decent numbers. i kinda want to take the head off and put a vtec head onto it but thats just more money.

Just how much bigger is that over the stock item ?
I've got a D16Z6 one but have seen a few people pushing these or modding the stock item for a bigger plenum.

For the B series there isn't that much to be gained going from a B16 to an ITR one. But the D series one is rather tiny in comparison so I guess it's worthwhile ?
