I like all the research and mechanical design on the LSD. Pretty interesting to see what I learned in school being used for the RT4WD wagon :)

    Thanks!

As I said in one of my previous posts, in 2007 I graduated from the University of Baltimore (which is most commonly known for its Law & Criminal Justice programs) with a B.T.P.S. (Bachelors in Technical or Professional Studies) in S.D.E. (Simulation & Digital Entertainment). --too many fucking acronyms!--

The core courses focused on 2D/3D modeling, software programming, higher-level mathematics & physics, etc. I've always been VERY mechanically-inclined, so after graduating, I ended up being a CNC-machinist for a while, then transitioned into the Quality Control aspect of aerospace machining. Working directly alongside Mechanical Engineers for the last 5 years has had a major impact on my knowledge base. Not only do I get to see good design practices, but I also get to see bad examples of how NOT to design parts.

As for the progress of my LSD; unfortunately, the current shop in which I work only has a manual lathe. If we had a CNC-capable lathe, it would be a 'piece-o-cake' to machine my custom differential. I am currently waiting for a job to finish on our engine lathe; once it is done, I will get to cutting the outside profile of the LSD housings. Once that is done, I'll just need to set up one of our vertical CNC-mills to finish the inner geometry detail for the guts of the differential.

    Will advise...

Wow, four months have gone by since my last post. I've been busy all summer with vacations and other misc. family commitments and I started a new job last Monday (09/19). I now have access to a CNC-lathe; which has re-ignited interest in this project of mine. I do, however, have some final "touch-up" work to do on the CAD model before I drag it into MasterCAM to generate the g-code for the lathe.

Also, I've been toying with the idea of going with a B18C GSR engine for my powerplant, as I came across one for a stupid-cheap price... I'll try to post back within the next few days with more info...

Okay, so I came across a '95 GSR Sedan with 133,XXX miles in one of the many "U PICK IT - U PULL IT" junkyards here in Baltimore; and ended up purchasing the complete longblock. Yup, that would mean that I paid $289 for a GSR longblock!!! whAAAAAAAAAAt? ... and to top it all off, one of the junkyard employees that I know very well told me he watched the owner drive it in and that he heard no funky noises and saw no tailpipe smoke, etc. So right there tells me that the chances of the motor having catastrophic problems is slim-to-none.

From the preliminary dimensions that I have found/measured myself, the GSR block is almost an inch longer than the D-series. I'm going to strip the block down and bring it in to work with me so that I can assess my options as far as what will be involved in mating it to my RT4WD tranny...

    Will advise...
