ZC swap issues! Plz help

Hey guys, Been a long time since I've been around. Finally got around to doing my DOHC ZC swap on the RT and having CEL code problems.
Car wont start unless I pump the throttle...once it is @ idle 800-1000rpm its good until you give it gas it will bog to 200rpm almost dying unless you pump the gas it will slowly rise over 2000rpm but drives like its got 2 cars pulling behind it.

CEL codes are:
Code 6 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT)
Code 7 - Throttle Position/Angle Sensor
Code 9 - No. 1 Cylinder Position Sensor
Code 10 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor

(I did check the CEL code post with explanations also.. not positive I checked volts right.. never used my multimeter before)

Currently I have tried to replace all the sensors as well as distributor and cyl pos sensor... still have all codes and problem. Been working on trying to get this thing dialed in with problem after problem... just need it running any help would be greatly appreciated!

Willing to start from square 1 if someone has the time to walk me thru it.

  • Have you tried checking the wiring?

Seems like you have a wiring issues. The ECT sensor wiring should give you approximate 5V when the ignition is on. I would start by testing that first. This is the same testing procedure for the IAT as well.

Have you calibrated the TPS yet?

Im with grifty on wiring. sounds like the coolant temp on the thermostat and the TPs plug are swapped. In fact the rpm cut at 200 tells me for sure your TPS isnt reading for sure.
  • Ill double check the volts and what not in the morning.. I did it once but dont remember what the volts were. Also dont know if it matters.. but the original harness plugged right into the DOHC swap... and all of my plugs worked just fine on my D16A6. Again not sure if that is relevant to the checking wires thing.
  • What ECU are you running?

If its OBD0 did you wire in the extra cam sensor?
  • Running Obd0 with a PM7 ecu. extra cam sensor? all my sensors are plugged up... do you mean the little distributor on the exhaust cam? my old motor was already MPFI and I did not repin the dizzy was not sure if i needed to since it was already MPFI I know I would need to if it was DPFI. Been a little busy thanks for the input but ill get some timing pictures and stuff in the next day or two.
  • so when running OBD0 with the PM7 you need to wire in the exhaust cam sensor as well. not having this will cause a code 9.

    It looks like this http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a318/ZCCRX/PICT0146.jpg

This may help you to wire it in http://www.quickhonda.net/zc3.htm
  • Took longer than it should have but here are some pics / updates.. removed my cat and it will now turn over without pumping throttle, she still has a slight bog when throttled but not nearly as bad 90% sure just a TPS adjustment. As for Code 9 timing seems to be on point and here are plug pictures just to verify before i mess with the repinning ( never done anything like that ).. still throwing all 4 codes.. but hoping when i replace the cat Codes 6 and 10?

Green plug does not have any open spaces.. plug has two wires

Plug has 1 open pin on low corner of picture..

Took some time off work really trying to get this thing up and running in the next week.. again appreciate all the input so far and sorry i have been slackin!
  • Well I would like to start off by thanking Grifty for the help and positive info! So the previous owner did not do the MPFI swap properly so going back thru the steps I was able to get the car running well... not great... as well as eliminating everything except my TPS code 7. I did the TPS voltage test.. Yellow wire @ 5.01v (closed throttle) Red wire @0.02 volts... Tried to rotate the TPS to change readings.. not getting anything over .02v. Reading are all @ DCV 20 on my multimeter. Started by testing battery.. reading was 11.92v so assuming my settings were correct..

again thanks to everyone that has given input.. been a great help and cant wait to get this ZC swap on the road!
