clutch cable isn't broken, but....

I'm completely confused. Searching the googles gives me nothing but answers about replacing my clutch slave cylinder. Sure thing, boss! Did a few searches here. Mostly talk about broken pedal assemblies. I need your help my friends!!!!

Clutch was replaced about 500mi ago. Was working just fine. Went to start my car the other morning and the pedal made a weird kinda pop and went to the floor. The spring at the assembly brings the pedal back up and I can go back and forth just fine. The cable doesn't seem to be broken. I can move the pedal up and down from the tranny as well. Should the fork coming out of the tranny be moving easily (up and down)? Could the cable be snapped inside the housing and just pushing against itself, making me think it's not broken?

I literally have no idea what this could be and I don't know enough about how the clutch operates to come to any sort of conclusion. I can do a video going over everything I just explained if that helps...

Car is a 91 RT, manual.

Thanks guys!

Do you mean to say that you can move the clutch release arm at the transmission by hand? Sounds like you may have a release bearing/fork/retainer spring issue.
  • the clutch release arm on the transmission should only have a small amount of play(about a 1/4'' or so). i agree with bam-bam about the throwout arm/spring/bearing issue, or collapsed clutch cover fingers.

By chance does anyone know how far your supposed to be able to move that arm?
