Finally got all the bugs buttoned up. New plug wires this morning to make it purr...Could be one of the best running cars I've ever owned...
Sourced rear mudflaps and fabricated some mounts that will work for now...
Some Craigslist seat covers... 4 bucks new in package. Nice color match though for hi-backs. Will do for now...
And a Jeco clock out of a 84-7 Civic Sedan. Looks like all 84-7 Civic clocks will work, and the delete has a false plug that holds the harness plug in...Plug and play !!!
Looking into a strip and re-tint, exhaust tip, and maybe some new tires before the weather gets too bad. I also got some factory color paint mixed up to fix the defect under my left quarter window as weather allows.
Went to start up the other day and ran like crap. Thought it was a plugged cat due to the exhaust glowing red after it ran a minute, so I hollowed it out...Nope. I tore the front covers off and re-checked the timing to see if it jumped...nope. All plugs were black, so I put new plugs in...Nope. I'm getting spark, the timing is spot on. I did a compression test 180-190 across. Seems like the carb is the culprit. Damn thing is brand new, and ran fantastic until the other morning. I checked the fuel pump pressure, and is pumping 3lbs., which is spec according to the service manual. When you spend the kind of money for a new Redline Kit, you'd figure the thing would last more than 700 miles....
Back to the drawing board...
Also.. I've seen an aluminum valve cover somewhere used on these engines. Is that the SI cover from the same era? I'd like to do that if it is an option as soon as I get this thing running again...
Be sure to inspect for vacuum leaks. Sounds interesting. Never heard of symptoms like that...
What else can you tell us? Are the rpms surging or racing or is it simply running rough?
Yes, the aluminum cover is from the DX & Si hatchback and CRXs of the day.
Cheers and good luck. Hope you find the culprit.
Having observed the photos of your engine compartment I can see that you are not currently running a fuel pressure regulator on your new setup. Summit Racing has a great selection for low pressure fuel pressure regulators for carbureted applications.
They are cheap. Perfect for mounting between the filter and carb itself.
The Weber likes to run between 2.5 & 4 lbs of fuel pressure on a 1500cc Civic. Very important.
There is a ton of gas in the oil pan..Too much fuel. Ran for about 30 seconds then would die...Start again after a couple hours same result.
If the pump only pumps at 3lbs., you would think that would be in spec. I guess not. So a fuel pressure regulator is next. I've never seen anything like this. Enough unburned fuel to make the exhaust glow AND to fill the crankcase with gas too.
I did re route the vent hose from the tank to eliminate the evap canister, replaced a leaky valve cover gasket, and some general tinkery today, so I do feel I got some small stuff accomplished...
Carb is faulty... Instead of a spray of fuel like it used to be, it is a waterfall. Trying to find out what I can do next. Hopefully I can get some help from the company I bought it from. I have a short day tomorrow, so I'm going to call them and see what options I have.
After working with and experiencing downdraft webers, I would never put another one on any vehicle I own. Is everything seated correctly, pulled apart and cleaned? I've seen some come with factory ick in them, and the float be way off.

Taken off, float checked, and blown out with air. Everyone says this is the way to go. I was looking for a Holley 5150, but they are almost non-existent. Don't have much choice really. I will probably just find someone that works on them to go thru it and fix what is wrong...
200 bucks later on a rebuild basically, and I got it home again... So much for a new carb. I've been trying to get hold of the dealer I bought it from, no love so far... Just happy to get it home. Too late to go and check things out now as it's below freezing and foggier than hell. I'll play in the morning... lol
Now that's a proper valve cover. I expect full restoration pictures please =D
And I'll say it again file don't sand that lettering. Looks so much cleaner with a bit of file taken to it. Very nice cover either way, I like that design a lot.

Thats crazy they had to rebuild a brand new carb?!
Thats crazy they had to rebuild a brand new carb?!
So its back to running a 100%...?
And new VC looks great- is it from a CRX?
Yup... I used to think Weber carbs were bullet proof. Should have known that they weren't once Edelbrock started using them to make their carbs...
Running real good. I still have to gain trust again...afraid to drive it to work and break down again. I usually junk a car when it fails...lol I'll give Him another shot or 2.
And yup, 1G CRX FI. Also can use a 3G FI SI, same thing. Gotta thank GreenTea for that tasty tidbit of info !!!
Nice, I've got the same valve cover as well. Any 84-87 Si cover will work, I think its a nice upgrade..
This is very good to know. I would like to pick one up and have it refinished in red or black or something crazy. I may pick one up next time I go junkyarding....
Also can I just say I'm enjoying the 3g take over on the forum!!!! lols

Hopefully we can get enough info crammed in here so the next round that comes through has some good info. Over the last 2 years it really has been a rough road trying to get info on these critters. Kudos to all the 3G Owners !!! You (and Me) ROCK !!! lol
Worked up the kahunas to drive the buggy to the PnP this morning. 40 miles round trip with no issues. Needs a little tweaking to be perfect, but definitely pleased with the "New" carb after it's 700 mile rebuild... I'd have pics, but the weather is disgusting, and the buggy shows it. More to come as things start to get rolling again.
Started running funny again this week, kinda like a little spit up thru the carb. I spent a little time tinkering with it myself using the setup procedure from the Weber website. I got it tuned pretty good. Took it out for a good run and it seems fine....Fingers crossed...
My stupid fuel pressure gauge isn't working...Gotta find a new one...
Still have a rich condition cold, but very much improved since the debacle. My fuel pressure gauge wasn't working. I have a functional one now, but the regulator will not go any lower than 3.8 lbs before the adjuster falls out. It was running at 5lbs., so let's hope that takes care of it. Dinking around a little bit this morning. I can't wait for warmer and longer days so I can dig deeper. I still need block off plates, I don't have any fab guys around to help out. I saw a dude on Red Pepper that made them, but no contact back from Him. Here's the result for today, still kinda meh. Better weather will improve quality I'm sure...
Been a while since I've posted. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer and have been undergoing treatment for it. As of now though, I am cancer free and just trying to heal from the complications of chemo. I still have my buggy, and drive it daily to work. No new stuff to add though due to my health problems. I still hope to get some cool stuff done after I heal and the weather gets nice.
Anyone seen any baby moon rims out there on the wagons? I love these wheels. I'm looking to get some, powdercoat white, and match body color on the moon cap. I've been cruising the net a bit, and only found a few folk that actually sell a 4x100 pattern. I might be missing something so if any of you have seen any please shoot me a link.
Seriously... It's good to be back in the game... Cancer sucks...

Shit. Sorry to hear about the bladder cancer. Great to hear you beat it!

I'd look at fabbing up a manifold and DIY some Mikuni action. That would be a hoot.
