Mishimoto Radiator & Shroud inquiry

Didn't find anything in the searches other than some hoses for sale. And apologies if this is in the wrong category.

I'm wondering if the Mishimoto Radiator and Fan Shroud setup, if anyone is running it, affords you any additional room. I put my header in and it's just barely contacting the back of the fan. I'm hoping to snag just a touch more room there if possible, without doing something like a half radiator since I'm not keen on that.

I've referenced some measurements and am not 100% sure if it would give any additional clearance, so if anyone knows, your info would be greatly appreciated.

I have no personal experience of this application, but instinct tells me the aftermarket radiator may have LESS clearance if it has an extra row of flues. I would look first at an aftermarket "slim fan". $60 at your local parts house.

i dont know if this helps, but i used a stock vw scirocco radiator in an 89 civic hatchback lsvtec turbo. it goes inside the radiator support so it frees up a lot of room. i had to do some trimming of the support, and make my own brackets. there is no radiator cap on the scirocco radiator, so i got an inline cap from a dakota. napa part #10290. you would have to do some work with hoses, because they are smaller on the d series.

I have a mishimoto radiator and its just a touch thicker compared to stock. You would be better off ditching the shroud and just mounting up some slim fans directly. Any fan that is slimmer than the stock fan would offer up more room.
  • Cool, thanks guys. I'll need to get in there and measure what I have. Honestly it's not the shroud causing the problem, it's that it's directly touching the back of one fan. I was planning on getting a mishimoto radiator anyway so maybe I'll pull it all apart and see just where I have room to wiggle things around.

Especially if with the shroud setup the fans sit farther forward. Really I think about all I'd need is a quarter inch gained.

The shroud itself fits up to a stock radiator, so that might be where I start with it.

I'd give the sirocco radiator a good though but I already have installed the mishimoto radiator hose kit, so that's already all in place for now.

Sorry just thinking there =) Again thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm running a half radiator on my 88 wagon. It takes some significant modification to make it fit. Mine isn't 100% locked and installed permanently yet. But I can say once its in there is a TON more room and I've had zero cooling issues with it.

I have a full race radiator, 100% bolt on with their traction bar setup. I ended up taking the t bracket and cutting out a lot of the core support in order to move it forward another couple of inches, but I probably need more clearance up front than you would
  • Thanks 503 & Fink. I have the mishimoto shroud arriving on monday. I know the specs on their radiator and have an idea of how much space I'll need from this on the stock radiator to know if I can mount that one up in the factory position. I figure at this point if that's not where I want it and need to dick with it further I have the welder and can just fab something up. Though easier is nicer =D
  • All right, I got the mishimoto shroud in, and I'm fairly pissed. It does not fit in there at all. The damn thing is warped like a pringle, the welds on the tabs needed ground down to even fit in there and I still have massive gaps at the edge.

Fortunately I was able to pull the fans out and zip them to the radiator itself. My old fan was hitting the header, which I wasn't a fan of, I needed the clearance.

Anyway, I'll probably DIY my own shroud at some point or modify this one and see if it can work, but yeah. I'm a fan of stuff that I've purchased so far from mishimoto, these fans themselves are great, but the shroud sucks nuggets.
