quick question about iacv

the idle on my 1990 dx wagon surges high then low when in operating temp. is the iacv something serious that needs to be replaced asap? or is it okay to drive on it until i get the part?

You'll be fine, it only does anything at idle.
  • I have had this happen on a 93 civic. The radiator fluid was low. It would rev anywhere between normal idle to about 2K.

It is pretty easy to take off and clean out to see if it fixes your erratic idle. I usually just use brake cleaner to clean it out, blow it out with an air gun, reinstall.

yeah that was what i was going to do but i have another d15b2 that i took out of my dx hatch and i just installed that iacv. it seemed to have made the idle better but not perfect still sometimes high idle and after operating temp it will surge maybe 1200 to 1500 rpm. im just wondering if its something very serious that needs to be taken care of immediately.
