Check your motor mounts

Just thought I'd share another fun find in my wagon. Not sure if this just worked its way loose or the previous owner(s) were nimrods. But the front motor mount was completely loose.

Sorry for the narrow video, I hate when that happens.

I wouldnt worry too much about it, its a stabilisor mount more than anything. Will just find that your engine would have rocked around more than normal.

Most aftermarket mount kits delete that mount as the new mounts are stiffer so its not needed
  • It definitely was rocking =) glad it was a minor mount though, like you said. It just more so concerns me about the level of detail put on this motor swap. Or rather lack there of.

I had this happen with mine (rear mount tho) and the driveshaft ground on the catch hoop, nasty noise. It also let the whole thing shift enough to somehow move the shift cable on my auto from D to N under acceleration. Which was annoying as all hell.
  • Just did the second mount. I need to get the others done ASAP now =D with how worn the other mounts are the latest mount I put in it makes it so the metal frame of it is rubbing against the connection point on the frame. Vibration city!
  • Regarding my previous comment. Has anyone had trouble with the motor mounts rubbing in the frame itself? It seems like there should be more clearance, but I'm just wondering if it's due to having one new mount in there but not the others yet. It just seems awfully cocked in there and there doesn't appear to be any real adjustment available to perform on it.
  • All right so it took some finesse and a bit of brute strength (more latter than the former) but I believe I got it sorted. I was able to get a thick 1/8" washer on the back side where it was rubbing. That shifted it forward a bit. There's still enough gap at the front that I think even after getting all the rest of the mounts replaced it won't contact there.

But it's at least drivable now. Before it was like the motor was directly connected to the frame itself, and that sucked!

That said, so far no real noticeable difference in vibration. I think the previous mounts were so shot that near about anything is an improvement.
