91 DX daily project build

Bought the 91 DX in April 2014. Spent a loooong time looking for a daily to replace my DB8 Found this one on craigslist and scooped it up. 225k miles automatic with A/C.

Brought it home and immediately put my old wheels (Axis Maglites) on it and did a complete tune up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor) and oil change.

Did a couple junk yard runs and pulled a decent DA front lip for the rear, a couple miscellaneous screws and items and a Volvo 740 front lip. Also ordered replacement hatch struts, Broadway mirror and a password JDM wiper delete plug.

Put the DA lip on the rear, new hatch struts, and wiper delete plug on .

Worked on the 740 lip but still not sure about it.
Made another junkyard run and found an MK3 front lip. I liked the fitment much better than the Volvo lip and decided to mount it. Replaced the valve cover gasket set.

Ill get some pictures up tomorrow of the most recent mods.

Plans are pretty simple; Low and slow and more maintenance.

Front DA lip installed on rear. After installing it I realized the the mounting strip was broken from the actual lip and it makes it look uneven. Ill address the issue with some plastic epoxy and reinstall. I like the look just with is was a little taller.

Any ideas on some other rear lips?

Thats the MK3 jetta lip I installed. Worked out pretty good. Needed a little massaging from the heat gun and trimmed on the wheel well ends. I thought it fit pretty good and it looks 10x better with a front lip installed.

I still havent given up on the 740 lip, but its taking some time with the plastic epoxy and heat gun to get it where I want.

Bought the armrest and passenger mirror that SnoCoWagon had listed in the parts section.

Ill update when they come in and I get them installed.

Nice wagon. I'm not a fan of the wheels though.
  • I love the wheels! I almost bought a set twelve years ago for my integra, keep them on the wagon!
  • Nice looks about the same color as mine should be. I like the painted bumpers, I'm debating on doing that myself, this gives me a good visual cue at least =)

Keep up the work. I like the wheels. What drives me nuts is a 5 spoke wheel on a 4 lug hub. Even number spokes for even number lugs!

Installed the passenger mirror and the modified sedan window regulator today! Still need to get my hands on some Jack nuts to install the armrest.

Here are some better pictures of the car.

Made a block off plate using the factory antenna plastic. I had ordered one directly from Honda but what I received was the oval shaped block. This was not what I wanted so I set out to make one.

Ended up cutting, fiberglassing, filling and sanding to get this:

Pretty happy with how it turned out. Tried my best to get it smooth and uniform looking. Painted it with Duplicolor trim paint.

Snagged a set for a really good price, cleaned them up a little and got tires mounted. Cant wait to see them on the wagon.

Nothing really new just been tinkering with it here and there.

Did the big three ground upgrade a little while back.

Spent several hours today taking old a/c evaporator and expansion valve and replacing it. Redid a lot of the foam sealer on the vents and put window screen on the top of blower motor housing. Got everything bolted up and ready for a re charge to get my a/c back up and running.
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
A/c recharged and insulated the evaporator box and cold line.

Just ordered new brake lines, fuel pump and coil overs.

Found a good deal on truhart basic coil overs so I'll be doing some follow up when they come in.

I'll update with pics when everything is back together.

Good work. The AC makes driving a lot more enjoyable .

I love your Honda wheels. They look so late 80's early 90's.

Post some photos once you install your new coil overs.

Curse you Honda for having to drop the tank to change the fuel pump...but don't worry I've fixed that! Never again will I drop the tank on this car.

Broke off a nipple on the "two way valve" mounted on the tank next to the fuel pump.

On a plus side I got rear suspension off and have new bushings in top hats with coilovers mounted .

    Long day
  • Nice job, I'm needing to drop my tank sometime when I do the rebuild I'm not looking forward to that either.
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
In all honesty it wasn't that bad dropping the tank..I just wish I wouldn't have left as much gas in the tank.

Now I'm left trying to figure out the importance of the two way valve and whether or not I want to try to find a replacement .

Super clean paint. I definately like your build. Wish I had a/c.
    What color is that, anyway?
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
Got the coilovers installed and "setup". The front is going to have to come up as I am rubbing a little more than Im comfortable with. I have the rears almost as low as itll go...the fronts arent quite half way, so theres plenty of room in te front for adjustment.

I only rode it around town to help settle everything and recheck bolts. To me the ride isnt overly harsh or rough compared to the 226k mile stock sspension. I had an integra with Koni / GC Off the shelf spring rates and Id say this is definately stiffer but nothing thats overly harsh or jarring.
    Spring rates 8kg F / 7Kg R( ~ 448 lbs front and 392 lbs rear)

here are some before and after shots.

Wrapped spoiler with 3M 1080 carbon fiber ...really like it and realized I am no professional wrapper :)

  • I guess if people like that I'll add the spoiler to my parts for carbon fiber reproduction =D

    Good job on the wrapping.

    Need more Lowz!!!!!

I've been a little preoccupied with a ram d50 I recently got and have put the wagon to the side so to speak.

I have been kicking around the idea of getting drop LCA to help get the rear down more. http://mpcmotorsport.storenvy.com/products/12671569-drop-lower-control-arms

Need to get extended top hats and get the exhaust done.

    Still digging it though!

Very nice, another clean wagon for the Georgia squad! haha What suspension do you currently have? A full coilover or a coilsleeve and spring combo?
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
Im on the truhart basics which are a full coilover setup. The fronts have plenty of adjustment in them, but the rears are almost maxed out and its not as low as Id like them to be.

    http://www.truhartusa.com/Basic_Coilover_system_for88_91Civic_90_93_Integra_p/th-h701.htm

I dont drive it all that much since Ive got a company ride but I fall in love with it (and think of more things to do) everytime I do get to drive it.
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
Gotcha! Typically on a coilsleeve system you can put stock rear shocks back on and get a lot of adjustment. My car has this setup with extended top hats and it's as high as it will go in the rear.
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
How's the ride like that though? How long do the shocks typically last?
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
I've been running these shocks for a few years now. The ride is pretty good for a lowered car in my opinion. It's not bouncy or extremely stiff like a full set of coilovers. The only reason I'm changing my suspension out now is I have about 50K+ miles on the stuff on there and don't want to sit so low anymore.
  • unc25unc25 New Wagonist
Got a pair of 6x9's to put in the rear since I can't seem to find a decently priced set of rear pods. Need to figure out a more permanent setup for them, maybe with a organizer tray of sorts in the back.

    4.jpeg

Also I found a Honda car seat anchor for the wagon so I can tote the little monster around in it a little more securely.

Copped these bad boys at IA yesterday for more lowz!!!

Haven't updated in a while , but I just took carpet out to clean it and put in frost king duct insulation and Noico 50 mil sound deadening front to back (spare tire well).

    16.jpg

    17.jpg

Planning on installing the rest of the Noico sound deadening on the doors.

Need to get someone to deep clean the seats though.

Just trying to clean things up a bit.
