Ummm cooper weathermasters are nice and cheap if you aren't studding. I use studded winters, pretty much any brand studded will rock your socks in the snow and ice. I'll get some pics later on, they are badass.

Where is 91lsvtec he is a tire monkey he will have a good work on this.
  • costco sells the Michelin X-ice and firestone sells bridgestone . both very good but may be in the higher price range for studless snow tires
  • I have cooper weathermasters on my car. They seem to do just fine. I have some really nice Dunlops on my other car that are nice too. I just don't run them to wide so they cut more through the snow then sit on top of it.

Not enough snow here to run studs though.
  • well i worked at discount tire for about 6-7 monthes, but havent personaly used a full set of snow tires yet.
  • We are required by LAW to have snow tires here in Germany and I can understand why. It is the difference between night and day when you are driving with snow tires on snow. A lot of Americans here in Germany think they can drive around with their summer tires or their all weather tires but it just isn't the same. I got stuck behind two idiots the other day trying to go up a hill in their stupid BMW's and their dumb 20 inch chrome rims on summer tread.

Here also if you are in an accident and don't have snow tires you are automatically at fault.

that must make the tire company's smile a bit.

here sometimes i just want to put on 2 winter tires, but the shop is not allowed to install only two winter tires, by law. apparently it's safer to drive on 4 all-seasons... i'm not sure i believe that, just gotta work the friggin throttle a bit if you start to feel the back come out.

    anyway... pics.

on the civic i roll on 175/70/13 studded Hankook Winter i*Pike

the studded ones are no good on dry pavement, they are noisy and have poor grip. in the snow & ice, let the good times roll.
  • how is the handleing with the i-Pikes?

they are simply amazing on snow and ice. you can easily throw the car into a drift WITHOUT the ebrake, and it's so easy to control. and normal driving you don't even think about how poor the road conditions are.

the main difference is the braking, where i live there is not one flat road in town, constant uphill and downhill braking. that's where a 4x4 will do nothing for you.
  • thats what i need to know. thanks.
  • I run Pirelli Snowsport 210's and they are amazing tires. They are a performance snow tire, so their tread isn't as aggressive as some of the other tires out there...but they handle amazing on dry pavement...which is the conditions of the roads 75% of the time in winter in most states. They do ok on ice, and ok in slush, but do great in light and medium snow, and well enough in heavy snow. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... +SnowSport

Hands down if you live in the states keep an eye on Craigslist for snow tire deals. I got my Snowsports on 15" Acura steelies used for only one season for $300. The tires sell new for $105 in the 205/55/15 size I got them in, and the steelies are worth $175-200 on their own. This is the 2nd amazing deal I've gotten on snow tires from Craigslist.
