I might be an idiot, but where do the frame rails run?

I have a 91 rt4wd and have posted here about dents in the floors before. My question is, do the frame rails run underneath the front seats, between your feet? Both sides were dented in as if they came down on rocks. Would this be a problem with structural integrity? I thought the frame was on the edge of the car, I'm not well versed in the anatomy of cars.

    It is a unibody, not a chassis. The only real 'rails' are in the engine bay.
