New red wagon tearing up the Northwest!

Hey fellow wagon eaters, noob here, just bought my second EF, this time I made the RIGHT choice and got the wagon, and better yet its an 91' RT 4WD!
Excited about the coming months as the shuttle needs some serious TLC to become the daily stunner I know is hiding under the dirt and neglect
Superbly automatic transmission as it needs to be for DD of me and the fiancee (for now hopefully) but I have heard junkyards and such charge some major coinage for the mythical 6 speeds?
No power steering as of now as the pump is a DUD, and leaks slowly from the side where the distributor meets the head, any ideas? I'm thinking just a gasket perhaps?
Odometer reads 235,XXX but still pushes hard, had a two and a half hour ride home from the mountains in eastern Oregon, where it previously resided, 4WD did awesome in hella rain but is clearly in need of oil and plugs, which will get done today, and ill be sure to post some pics as I go.
Thanks in advance for any words of advice.

  • Welcome. Pics or ban!
  • As promised
  • Pics aren't working for me :(
  • Because you are new to the board, one of the mods will have to approve your first couple of pics posts. Hang in there, they are pretty good about getting it all approved!
  • I think he's trying to attach links from his email account :/

    Anxious to see it though!
  • I think I know which one it is. Was it on craigslist with a banged up on front passenger side?
  • yeap, sure was....poor thing was thrashed around by a meth head mail man before I got it from the previous owner who had took it off his hands to drive in the snow they got up in the dalles...they got a foot and a half!!! we ONLY got 12 inches in st helens........poor us.....
  • Got a few parts installed this weekend from the junkyard:new taillight, new battery from auto zone, new battery cable from an obnoxiously purple EF sedan, new passenger window rubber seal(still need the drivers side, leaks badly...) new trunk shocks which only worked at the junkyard which blows! new upper radiator hose, and a stereo and 4 new speakers because it had none
On the way to work a couple of days ago, started to hear a definitely loud whine coming from the right rear wheel, ideas anyone? bearings? wheel hub?
Only got to see 3 wagons at the yard, Portland is in serious need of some wagon power....still need a front fender and side marker....
  • ONLY 3 wagons at the yard, buhahahahaha! I've been lucky to see a single one in most of my visits, let alone multiple in a single visit. Feel very fortunate young wagonist :)

PS Lets see these photos already :)

  • Seeing those pictures I'd suggest a valve cover gasket and an o-ring for the distributer.

Looks like the dog is stoked on the new ride, my pups love riding in the wagon!
  • Yea? thats what we were thinking after we changed the plugs and found a dew drops of oil at the bottom....but we needed a second opinion and perhaps even a third....I have the week off from work which blows but gives me time to get to take some things off the fix me list...we have been working to paint the floor with bed liner since the carpet is a goner, pics shall come shortly!

So after a few weeks of pondering, the wifey and I decided we need to lift the car.....found hella info and we are gona try for the next few months to stack the parts up in the garage and work up the courage to do it, should be hella exciting!
But at the the same time, the more I think about it, the more i realize, this car has been driven HARD by its previous owners, and at 236K, even though the water pump and timing belt have been properly done, the motor should be getting tired about now....and this being our daily, I figure the very least I can do for now, is do a y8 mini me swap the right way(obd1 and such) to keep Comet flying though the multiverse at inter dimensional speeds....Anyone have any advice?Comments?Suggestions? As previously stated I am SUPER NOOB and would truly appreciate any words from anyone who know any more than me! ALSO, I live in St. Helens, which is about 30 minutes outa Portland, OR, but I constantly find myself in the rose city, so anyone who lives in Portland, does work on RT4wd's and can spare some time to even look at my car for more than 37 seconds, we would not at all mind making the drive to get some knowledge

    MUCH APPRECIATED!

    So quick update today
Had to run some errands today and the car wont start, wen and looked under the hood and the grotesque + battery cable is shorting, why? probably that meth headed mailman's wiring....
Any who, just moved it around a bit and the wagon beast arises as always....finally after about the fourth time of me having to do this, I decided it was enough and went and got a new coated port for a couple of bucks...while I was at it I decided it was time to remove the air box and rid it of its 1/2 inch layer of dust INSIDE AND OUT,clean up the surrounding area and a few wires while I was at it...no biggie just some electrical tape to keep the Northwest rain out of my headlight harness and whatnot

Found this coming from the headlight harness, isn't too long so it couldn't go that far, Any Ideas Anyone?

Also this was on the wall beside the air box, looked on the oposite side and there another one just like it, is some sort of plug I guess? Again any ideas?
