Mount counter weight ?

I was trying to find WTF the clunking was coming from my Shuttle's rear end. I found the rear mount on the rear diff was totally shot so I've rebuilt it with poly urethane and letting it cure right now, but also attached to that mount is possibly the wierdest thing I've seen on a Honda and the source of the clunk.
It sits to one side of the mount and weighs quite a bit. It's a metal bar with two rubber triangle tabs and is rubber mounted to the U shape bracket.
Mine has worn out the rubber bushes so it was knocking back and forth in the U bracket.
What on earth is this for ???
I can only assume it's some sort of attempt to counter act the diff rotating under load ?
Any one know for sure what it does ?

I'd like to know more about this particular part because when I got under my car the other day I noticed that cylinder looking piece just moving around freely in there.
When I take hard turns over gravel or mild bumps I hear all sorts of thumping coming from the rear end. I jacked up the car and tried to physically move the rear differential around and it was solid.
The only thing that was "loose" was this piece.
Funny enough, but it's actually a "damper". It doesn't make the rear end of the car wet (dampener), but rather simply absorbs some of the vibrations that might occur in the driveline.
:P
I stand corrected! Everyone check you spelling/grammar, Jaker is on the loose
I guess it doesn't matter. Gonna replace it asap anyway.
Dampener lol!
Wagons make everyone wet!
LOL
It does dampen sound and vibration but the part is called a Differential Damper (Part# 50716-SH9-020)
Anyways... calling it a dampener would work

So you could effectively interchange the terms, but to be clear and concise, the engineering term in this case is damper.
