Another project (not pretty and not a wagon) AE86

Look what I picked up, well will be picking up. I know it isn't a wagon but I am stoked to have finally found one. Took me a couple of years to find one close enough to look at. At this rate I will never finish a project. Sometimes you just can't pass up a good deal though  .

No need to describe it you guys know what this is right?

It will sit in a buddy's garage till mine is finished being built. I know it isn't pretty but overall in good shape and my buddy will fix the rust before I pick it up.

mMmmmm AE86. Levin tho....i like the Trueno better. i love the flip-up headlights.

    more info!!!
  • HOLY LIP SON!!! MMMMMMMMMM light turboed drifter?
  • Yep 1986 Toyota Corolla AE86. It definately needs work but these are super rare here in Germany and most of the time you see them in the 4-5000 dollar range. I picked this up for a cool grand. Which a lot might think is a lot for the condition but it is at least all there and will have all the rust fixed. Oh and it is being delivered so I don't have to tow it.

I like the Levin front end myself. Not a fan of pop up lights although it does give a cleaner look.

I already have a set of Kakimoto rims I will put on this thing and hopefully at least by Spring it will be running. It has a Koni lowering kit on it but I am trying to get my buddy to get me something that will allow me to street sweep this thing.

    Drift time

    *drool*

go with a full swap 4A-GE. the silvertop from the AE101 upped the valves to 20 instead of 16. a nice clean 160hp. i hear those things can handle up to 300+ hp, all motor. throw a small turbo on it and you'll be drifting all night 8)

    do it! lol
  • He'd be better off if he could get his hands on the 4A-GZE some raw Supercharged power. Those engines are extremely hard to come by though. You can't turbo charge the 86's, you'd have to go to a newer year motor, because it'd be stupid to turbo charge a motor with a carb on it. Plus I've never seen a turbo available for that old of a car.

Edit: Unless the Levin was fuel injected, I don't know much about the Levin, I am more of a trueno type of guy.
  • It is fuel injected. It has the 4a-GE in it. I plan on just building that because it is like the D16. Will take a beating and still run like a champ. It is nice having a friend in Okinawa that can hook you up with some parts. Some cams, exhaust, intake should still make for a fun little motor and the interior will remain completely stripped for the exception of two Toyota Corolla GTS seats (AE101 I think).

They are pretty rare over in the UK too. About the same price ranges, but in pounds not dollars

i believe the 4A-GZE had a slightly lower hp number. well either way, the 4A-GE is a strong motor like ragenasian said. beat it up
  • There is no other way to do it but beat it up. I have 5 cars and all the motors were researched before purchasing to know what kind of reliability I was getting.

I can't wait to get my garage done so that I can move this thing into it and start wrenching on it.

i cant wait til i get older and have enough money to do projects like you. i wanna put a SR20VE into the G20....no turbo for me. it'd be nice to have one, but just too much to think about and worry about. the VE would be a nice swap to do. who wants to donate? :D
  • Thanks for making me feel old Duckie.

I haven't hit 30 yet but it is coming soon.

I have a very understanding wife. She was the one who agreed to the 700square foot garage with the 12 ceiling and lift.

We bought a very expensive house here in Germany so in order to save us money I have done all the remodelling on the house. We have saved a tremendous amount of money by not having to hire people to do the work. With this the wife lets me have some fun.

Plus the wife loves the cars. This will just be another one she will have fun driving.

Same here. Like said, a little cleaner overall. Love the Hatchis and would love to build one up. Just got too many projects ahead of it. Plus Im not near as fluent in Toyota as I am in Honda :)

Nice! cool little cars. Looks to have some cool little items on it as you got it.

And dont feel too old, I turn 38 this year.

Love all the different areas in the responces on this thread. People from everywhere.
  • Thanks Shenrie

Well it will sit in my friends garage for the winter. I know a guy who is coming back from a tour down range and he knows every little bolt on this thing so hopefully he can help me out.

I would like it to run so I know that everything is good on it.

The things I noticed on it was the front end. This is a US spec model that had the front end conversion on it. The lip was added, Koni suspension, sport steering wheel, toyota celica leather seats are being given to me, two motor harnesses, and everything I need to put it back together. So I am getting a complete car at least.

    Thanks EVERYONE!!!!!
  • Not to steal a topic, but I think I am definately the youngest, at only 17. Still can't wait to see the progress on this one, keep us updated.

i was 17 when i joined, that was 2 years ago... duckie is a couple months or so older then me.. its a great place with a vast age group..

BUT on topic, i love the rims on tht thing. sorry im super ignorant or whatever, i just really do not know Toyota at all (except my moms Sienna minivan LOLOL).. so is that a USDM Corolla? or....?
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
i was 16 when i was on the old forum...beat that =P haha

anywho, back on topic. yup, the Toyota Corolla GT-S. came in the liftback and coupe. the only Corolla that had a FR drivetrain. all after this one (AE101) switched to FF. thats why its so popular in the drifting scene. also made popular by the japanese show Initial D (tofu car) hahah i love that movie! anywho....great car. i wanna see the progress!
  • Progress should start coming in December hopefully. I got some Kakimoto rims that will go on it. 16x7 and 16x8 wrapped in brand new sumitomos.

I also am starting to look for the paint kit so that when the car is here the prep can start.

STOP TELLING EVERYBODY HOW YOUNG YOU GUYS ARE YOU BUNCH OF BABY'S
