Sweet tri-coat paint job! Your painting the whole car like this or just the bay?

For now it's just the bay, haven't seen the color outside garage yet. I really like it, will see. It would look good also with grey bottom!

Today prepared all for engine swapping in, next week I hope I could do that ;)

Paints gonna be crazy in the sun! I think it would look good on the entire car though. Definitely unique. And your lsd is a d series right? Pretty dumb question haha but if the d series axles don't fit Idk what would short of custom.

I've never heard of a d series lsd setup so I am interested in your setup

I know quaife makes an lsd for the d series, but that's at least $600. I've got an eBay cheapo spring loaded lsd block on my 96 civic tranny. just goes into the pinion and presses on the spider gears, but the difference is night and day! Great in the snow!
I'm a new member, so I can't post a link yet, but I've got a video of the install here: http://youtu.be/M-zc1wTJo04

    O.P. - beautiful paint! Subscribed.

    Thanks,

  • Luckily the lsd will fit :smug: took my spare rear axle and checked, all fits!
This week my engine will be finished. But on Saturday I am going on vocation to Ischgl to do some snowboarding!
I have put back together all parts, so the engine bay is now ready for some swap :encouragement:

ps. will do wiretuck in summer, didn't have time for it now! So for now a little mess in the bay..
  • Last week had a little vacation:

And now back to work and to my project! Why every time, You make something custom, there is so much problems poping out from nowhere :( :D

Okey, so my engine finally got completed and is ready for swap, while I was snowboarding in Alps.. Here are some pics with job that was done.

When came back from Alps, next day did some swapping with help of my brother :D

Engine is in! And new problems are also in da house! :( New radiator monts doesn't fit when I put back the big front lower mount (hope You understand, I don't know how is't called). Yesterday got rid of that problem, will take some pics today with the problem!

So today I hope to start and break-in the engine! It's been soooo long time with sooo many problem! I can't wait when it will be over and running! Than I will take some rest and won't do anything, just drive! :D

Oh and these came in some days ago:

I don't really trust those lsd what You put in Your tranny! They are good only when You go straight or when both wheels are spinning the same time! When You do slow turns and one wheel is spinning faster than other, the metal plates are wearing and I think making metal flakes in Your tranny! And that could and bad ;)
  • YESSS! Yesterday started the engine and all is just fine! Already did a fast break-in, new engine feels faster than my old one and You can even feel the vtec kick :encouragement:

Next week hope to build my turbo manifold!
  • Little progress in past two days! Have slept only about 5 hours. It's really tough and complicated manifold, there isn't space barely for anything! But there is always a solution!

    Some pictures:

    195.jpg

I wanted to put big one on top, but there wasn't so much space, so now it's hiding below small one!

Still need to place 2x wastegates and make hoses to intercooler and intake. Hope to get it done next week.
  • Awesome! I'm always a fan of building it yourself, so much more pride even if it doesn't turn out as nice as a purchased part.

This time, there is no chance to put in purchased manifold, here is all custom

Wow. Interested in how this turns out. Wouldn't think that turbo lag would be much of an issue with the right tuning/setup but this is a interesting solution nonetheless. Would love to see some dyno figures when the time comes. Good stuff!

Let's say You want 400hp and for that You will need pretty big turbo, also with twinscroll turbo and proper built manifold and tune, best You could get is 3k rpm when the turbo starts spooling (I'm just thinking it could be that on 1.6 liter engine). And the power band will go up smooth till the end of rpm.
With my setup, let's say it spools at 3k also, but the power band will just jump up immediately and the max power should be around 4-5k rpm and the rest rpm range (5-8) just need to hold up the band with proper tune.
Really want to see how this will turn out on the dyno!
  • Last night added wastegates to monifold. Some pictures:

My friend is waiting for some parts for TIG to make a good weld. So my project got stuck a little! When the manifold will be welded, then I will be ready for dyno.
  • dude! sick build. im digging it.
  • snowbrdsnowbrd Wagonist
No good news this time :(

In the end manifold was welded with semi-automatic welder (I don't know how it's called in english), so the welded places looks really bad. But in the end I put all together and it looks like this:

    15.jpg

    16.jpg

    17.jpg

    18.jpg

Then we did a little tune on streets to see what happens, there was problems with boost pressure and when we managed to get 22psi my blow off just flied away :D So the blow off is a complete shit and for further tune I took my brothers Greddy Type-RS bov.

    19.jpg

Already in the street tune we couldn't get the big turbine spooling, it was showing only ~7 psi and I already know that it was too big. Yesterday I was at dyno, engine was heating up because there is a lot of heat from that manifold and that's a very big problem to deal with!
After dyno I drove 150km home and then shit happened, my engine continued to heat up, I checked cylinders and one was filled with antifreeze, so I have blown head gasket now. Here is dyno graph. All power is from small turbine (~20psi) and where it can't handle it anymore, there should big one come in. Now I know what I need and next time I hope my head gasket will stay in place :D

I guess my project is boring :|

Anyway, took out engine and checked what is broken and what is still alive. Only thing that is completely dead is head gasket and it's real messed up! No one have ever seen such self-bent head gasket (I guess it was a failure).

Now I have problem with compression ratio, which after checking and calculations turned out to be 10.9 :O With pistons I bought it should be 8.0. Now I am stuck at here and don't know what to do because I have build N/A engine not turbo.. Already sold big turbo and will have smaller one in place. Have a lot solutions for heating problem and will do that also before next tune..

Man this is one of the coolest builds. Do not give up! Having a twin turbo 4wd honda is the best thing ever!
  • t9wagont9wagon New Wagonist
It sounds like the overheating issues on the drive home were due to the blown head gasket, so I would resurface the head and block and use a mls gasket.

Also pull the hood off and put a bunch of fans around the engine while it's on the dyno. And pray that with a proper tune and gasket you won't have heating issues

Overheating was just on dyno. Took off hood before dyno, when engine heated up too much, took off also front bumper, but it's still not enough to cool it down in garage. On the way home all was fine, but till I got home, all antifreeze was eaten buy first cylinder. It was a surprise, but both surfaces are perfectly straight. One thing about head gasket, I had Victor Reinz and now I know that they have failure gaskets also, I already ordered Honda OEM gasket, my friend pulls 350 whp on OEM gasket.

A lot of heating issues are because of exhaust manifold, that whole bunch of pipes produces lot of heat! I ordered thermal ceramic paint for that ;)
  • Loving the build, you've got skills :). Cool to see you and your brother doing the work together

    This is awesome.
Question though, what size is your intercooler piping? Seems a tad small for running twins.

The small ones You see on small turbo is 45 mm (1.77"), but to intercooler and to intake it's 2.5" ;)

I would love to go! But I am not really sure if I can make it all work until the honda meet. It is 5 weeks away, and there is quite a bit of work left on my wagon, but it would be great motivation to go!
