I bought one off an Isuzu Trooper the other day, knowing I could cut the width down, but the problem ended up being in the roof contour. Side rails are ~4' long and flat... HCW roof is not flat.
This may not help, just saying that a rack that mounts in 4 corners is more apt to fit than one with continuous side rails.
  • i picked it up, and the contour is perfect. the width is almoast perfect. i am going to make it work though. it looks so stock! :D
  • oh yea, can anyone get me the width and length of the rack on the wagon?
  • Ill go check my OEM Wagon one right now.
  • I know for a fact that the roof rack from a Subaru Loyale (late 80s vintage) will fit perfectly on our wagons 'cause... I've done it.

I think it looks pretty good.

Where can I see a decent pic of the OE rack? I spotted one on a '90 RT at the junkyard yesterday and couldn't get the screws out. If it's real I'll go get it.

those screws are a pain in the ass. Your going to need a impact screwdriver.

drilled the screw heads off. Pics in a bit...

also took one off of a Kia Sportage that fits NICE.

Here's the one from the Kia Sportage:

check this out...Kia rack side by side with Isuzu rack. They're identical except for the logo molded in the pushbutton.(and the Kia one is curved to fit a rounder roof)

the OE looks awesome, i wish my junkyard has crap like that, but, there are only like 5 wagons in this entire region, so..... chances of one in the scrap is next to none :(

how are these attached to the car?
is there some sort of bolt and hole on the car?
    or

are these screwed into the roof by making a new hole?

I used 1/4-20 thin sheet nut-serts, that's also how all 3 of the ones I got from junkyards were mounted. TIP> use a drill stop of some kind to avoid unsightly holes in your headliner
  • thats what i did. and yes, make sure you do something to prevent the drill from going to far into the headliner
