Strange noise after driveline removal...

Band Wagon
I have a 91 RT4WD civic wagon. Just removed the driveline from the transmission back to the rear diff. in order to replace old U-Joints. This is my daily driver at the moment. I turned the lever on the transfer case so that it is now only FWD, but after the car reaches about 60 mph this loud whine is coming from the front end (transmission/transfer case area) only after dropping speed back to around 20 mph does the sound stop. What could this be? Has anyone had this problem before? please help...
UPDATE: In case someone else runs into this problem, like Bam said "make darn sure the gear is completely disengaged." Upon further inspection the lever on the transfer case to switch from RT to FWD had ever so slightly moved (assuming it was from the beating i gave it to get to get the driveline loose) about an 1/8 of an inch.
Note: When tightening the bolt that holds the lever in place, keep tension on the lever or the torque applied with allow the lever to move into 4WD.
Hope this helps someone else.
