89-91 Rear Drive Drain

So I just bought my first wagon a red 89 RT4WD and she definitely needs work which I am fine with. However there is one thing that I noticed when I got her home. She's missing the rear drive train. You'd think I would have noticed but I was actually at the guys place to buy a different wagon that wasn't worth what he was asking and he wasn't willing to negotiate so I was gonna leave. Then I see the the red one in the corner of his lot and it was a much more sound car but it was late and I had a long drive ahead of me so I didn't get to give it a full one over. Then after I noticed I called the guy and he said he would give me a $100 back. So, being new to hondas, this leaves me with a few questions.

1. Is that a fair amount back? Can I replace the part with that amount?
2. Do I have to get a rear drive train from another 89?
3. And if I get a parts RT4WD wagon does it have to be a 89 or am I good as long as its 4th gen?

Any and all help is appreciated,
TrevorTK

  • 1. Depends on what all is missing. Although $100 dollars is hardly enough to replace any of the rear drivetrain. Sounds like he probably made some money off of those parts and kinda screwed you over, depending on what you paid for the car as a whole.
    2. I'm not positive, but I think all the rt4wds use the same stuff.
    3. Depends on what parts you need.
  • If it's a FWD car, then you're fcuked.
If not, you will probably need propshaft, rear diff, mounts, axles... lots of money...
