Replacing the exterior weatherstripping on driver's door

What is required in order to do this?

I have a replacement but want to know if I need to remove the door card or not.

Also, do I need to roll the window al the way or partially?

Anyone have a schematic they can send?

Cheers !!

  • I should have the schematic in my OEM manual I can scan it and email it to you if you would like......I also have a buddy who does not require his 1990 OEM manual if you want it????

I would appreciate that, thx !! Sooner than later is good too since I'm driving out of town on Thursday and would like to swap the weatherstripping before that. The tear in the current weatherstripping generates a lot of noise at highway speeds.

    Hey all,

The weatherstripping problem is making my ride noisier and noisier these days, so I thought I'd ask a stoopid noobie question (hey I've only had her a year so I can still be a noob, right?)

How does the weatherstripping replacement thing go? Can you DIY? Do you just buy something at NAPA and stick it on there? (I noticed there doesn't seem to be a Honda part # for it.)

    Thanks!

Hey where have u been? which weatherstrip are you referring to?

    Hiya,

Well, I might not be calling it the right thing -- it's the black plastic strip that goes across the top of the windshield. I needed a couple of dings fixed today and talked to the guy at the auto glass shop about it, who told me to just pull the plastic the rest of the way off -- which I did. He said it's just cosmetic, and so far that seems to be true, it's not leaking that I can tell. (Yet.)

On the driver's side door the actual weatherstripping is in very bad shape, and I sometimes get rain inside when I'm driving in the rare (ha ha) heavy northwest squall. It's also a really noisy ride because of it. The guy at the auto glass place said that the window weatherstripping is a part I have to get from a Honda dealer, but he didn't know the part #. Hate to pay dealer prices ... any other options?

As for where I've been ... a place called grad school. Actually I haven't posted much because my budget for car mods is sadly lacking ... even the rust on Bluebell is still unrepaired. About the only thing I've done is fix things that were broken and add bumper stickers. ;)

Looking forward to having a j-o-b and the ability to up my li'l Bluebell's horsepower. Merging onto the freeway in Vancouver can be intense at 90kph!

    Cheers,

    Jenny
