Exhaust pipe touches driveshaft?

Just bought a 1991 Automatic 4wd wagon today and I am going to love it. But when I shift it into reverse, the exhaust pipe is pulled up into the driveshaft(?) and causes chatter/vibration. What would cause this? I no mechanic yet, hoping to learn on this car by nursing it to 300k+ miles, so forgive my dumbness. I can try to get pictures if need be.

    it could either be a bad motor or transmission mount, which would allow the motor to move too much. or if there is no springs on the bolts that connect the downpipe to the catalytic converter. (if its rigid, the exhaust might move with the motor a little more.).
