Changing the tie rods help

So I have watch some videos on youtube, and I am pretty sure I got the idea on how to remove the tie rods, but I am having a problem, and would like some suggestions. So I remove the boot, and exposed the inner tie rod. I am replacing both inner and outer btw. So the problem is I can not get the inner tie rod to come loose. From watching videos I saw that you have to vise grip it loosen it. Every time I try and vise grip the end and use a wrench to get it off it just keeps slipping. What could I do to get these out.

  • a pair of open ended wrenches will do much better then vise grips

there is a lock washer that you need to bend back to loosen it. or you just bust it off. get an open ended wrench, and hammer it hard, you need that hammering action to snap the lock washer.

I managed to get them off using an adjustable, and an open end wrench. When I start reassembling everything, are there any main bolts/nuts. That I want to be extra careful off. I heard the axel nut you do not want to over tighten because it will put pressure on the wheel bearing. I was told 100 ft/lbs will suffice. I have been mainly just doing the old tighten by hand until snug and a 1/4 or 1/2 turn.
