DOHC ZC 1988 clutch question

Hey guys, Im currently looking for a clutch for my 88 civic wagon with a ZC swap. Its a 21 spine but i want to know what size clutch do i need? 190 or 200mm? I have read both and want to be sure.
Thanks

It depends upon which flywheel/pressure plate you are using.

I was after a completely new set up, i herd that the 89 flywheel can work with the 88 clutch and was hoping thats true. So it doesn't matter if its a 200mm or a 190mm as long as i get a matching flywheel and pressure plate?
  • Yes, and as long as the spline count is the same on tranny and clutch disc. Don't know for sure, but the different sizes might correspond with different spline counts. I always match everything up to the tranny I'm using and never have problems.

    1988 CRX/Civic/Shuttle 21 spline input shaft 190mm flywheel
    1989 CRX/Civic/Shuttle 20 spline input shaft 200mm flywheel
    1990-91 CRX/Civic/Shuttle 20 spline input shaft 212mm flywheel

i thought the d15 had already been taken to scrap yard but it was in my back yard :S. measured the clutch and its a 200mm 21spine, when i spoke to exedy though they said they don't have a flywheel to match that clutch

Most performance flywheels and clutches for the D series are made in the 212mm size. I know that one mfgr. I looked at (ACT maybe?) said that to upgrade an '88 clutch you must use '90-00 flywheel and cover. There was a link in my thread but it's broken now.

200mm with a 21 spline hub is oddball. You sure of those numbers?

@bambam just remeasured the clutch and also checked the spine count. clutch is definitely 200mm and spine count is 21. Also attempted to measure the flywheel but i think i must have done something wrong because i measured 28cm (tooth to tooth across the wheel)... Because the old d15 clutch is a 21 spine 200mm disk is that the sizing i should go for the ZC or should i still just match it to a d16a6 with a 190mm disk?

Probably stupid questions but i do really appreciate everyones helps

The flywheel measurement we're looking for here is the diameter of the friction surface, the machined part. Overall diameters are all the same.

I'm confused: do you intend to buy an aftermarket flywheel, or use one that you have? Does the ZC have a flywheel on it?

If you're trying to mail-order the whole setup, then the 190mm set for an'88 would be the simplest.

Try that link, don't know if it will work, I'm not too computer savvy. If not, search for ACT clutch 3000103. The part I want you to see is the applications. The same disc fits 84-87 Prelude 2.0 and 86-89 Accord. It's a 212 mm disc with a 21 spline hub. I'm not endorsing this particular disc, it's pricey in my opinion, but this is how I put the big clutch in Fool's Gold with an 88 transmission.

Thanks bam-bam, went and re measured the flywheel to 212mm. The price for the clutch doesnt really concern me because i got aquote locally they wanted $250 for the clutch by itself (exedy).

The ZC still has a clutch and flywheel attached to it but i was preferably after a new flywheel as well. Just bought the clutch and will put an order in for the flywheel tomorrow.
