1986 honda wagovan help!

I was driving my wagon the other week and noticed when i got home it was cruising at an abnormally high speed about 20mph without pressing the gas. I park and and it jumps straight to 3k and will not go down, its not a pulsing idle it stays solid and when i cut the car of it starts to diesel and will not cut off unless i press the throttle to the floor. So far i have checked the float, choke, and throttle linkages and nothing is hung or stuck open. I didn't visually find any vacuum lines cracked or broken and the cel is not on. I tried to look in the sight glass to check the fuel flow but i am assuming since it is revved up that you don't get a proper reading because i can never seem to see anything in it even with adjusting the float screw. The only thing i have found that changed the way the car is running is to one: unplug the vacuum line on the dizzy or turn the dizzy but nothing else changes how it runs. could someone please give me some sort of advice to why this is happening?

i will keep an eye on this thread as my 87 does the complete opposite. soon as i take my foot off gas at stop i dies. runs perfect off idle... but come to a stop and push clutch in... dies.

Mine did that too when i first got it. Mine is auto but had a hard time running when at a stop.. I did a full tune up and it was great right up until this hah. Recently my fuel mileage started too fluctuate a lot sometimes it do great other times it would eat gas.

My 87 raced like that too, when I shut it down had to kill it by opening the thottle also, found fuel still pouring into top of carb but I just parked it until I can swap it for 1G integra set up, sorry not much help I figured carb rebuild would handle it but I'd rather have injection.

I would suggest checking to make sure there is no binding of the throttle cable, return spring or butterfly. If the cable is getting stuck in the housing i would recommend replacing it, the return spring gets worn out over time check to see if it is weak hence it would not pull the throttle closed completely when you let off the gas. Also check to make sure your butterflys are closing completely if they are even slightly resistant to opening you may want to clean your carb thoroughly... Hope these suggestions help
