The Cream

Hello fellow members I finally got a wagon after searching for 2 years to find a good wagon for the right price. I had some extra money laying around from taxes so I was looking on Carolinahonda forum and found this wagon posted same day I was on the site.
I Texted as soon as i saw it and 5 days Later I drove 6 1/2 hours to Charleston SC to Pick her up. I was a little sketched at first driving so far in the wagon not knowing what will happen But whats a road trip without a Little adventure! Well heres the Start of my build thread feel free to ask or comment on anything you'd like, advice is appreciated also. :)

Im sooooooooo glad it came with all the stock mudflaps and roof rack!!!

    701.jpg

The engine bay is greasy and caked cant wait to get some purple power and clean this thing! any suggestions on cleaning the engine bay a faster better way im all up for it.

    702.jpg

It also came with godspeed rs coils which is pretty awesome. because where I live i need to raise it just a little the roads sucks and very curvy. My mudflaps scrap on some curves. :/ makes my shoulders cringe everytime I hear the sound.

  • I was driving it back on the 6 hour road trip I took to pick this wagon up. I started to notice that it wouldnt go into gear to I stopped at the nearest exit to see what the hell was going on.
I lifted up the hood and got my buddy to change the gears and it looked fine as far as I could tell. So i called the guy I bought it off of "this was 4 in the morning" and asked if he had changed the tranny fluid or checked it and he said it was up to par. Then i started looking at the clutch cable and it was tight as it would get so then I said well Im assuming thats the problem.
I pulled out one of the plugs while i was under there and "plump" it popped out but the gully that the spark plug was in was filled with oil and so where the rest of them. I was instantly angry because the guy never said he had a valve gasket leakage. So heres some pics of the valve gasket changing and while i was there i changed the spark plugs too. Plus some pics of the Tranny shifting problem.

    801.jpg

This is what all the little plugs looked like awful..

    802.jpg

While i had it apart I should of cleaned and painted it but I just cleaned it real good.

    803.jpg

I thought the clutch felt a little weak and it made a creaking noise ever time I pushed the clutch in and looked a little sideways. So I get on my knees and look at the pedal assembly and boooom!!!!! theres the problem the clutch side if the assembly was cracked and busted.

If you look at the rod thats connected to the pedal and goes to the frame you cant see it in the picture but it was almost completely off the frame plus it was cracked in the bottom left corner.

    804.jpg

So i call around and found a junkyard that only has honda I had to ask the clerk if i was hearing her right Then ask her if they had any wagons and they said two. So i drive 2 hours to get to this place and I got the pedal assembly for 60 dollars and picked up a clutch cable for 15. They had a brown interior wagon with back seat head rest.
Which I wanted soooo bad but couldnt find my self at the time spending 20 each on head rest. But if you guys think its a good deal then Ill go back but I could probably buy the whole back seat for the same price most likely.

this is the old assembly but you get the picture.
    805.jpg

The guy at the junkyard said that "youll have fun putting that in" I said haha ah it cant be too bad.......... well I was wrong.... it took my three hours to do and laying on your back doing above head work with a flashlight isnt that fun... A garage would of charged me at least 300 to put it in. So i said fuck that im doing it my self. I had to drop the steering column and unbolt the ecu. Wish I had taken pics of the steps to get it out but it was late and i had to get up early to go to work so i just wanted to finish so i could get some rest. Sorry about that guys. :(
  • You are right on truckersatlas....FUCK THAT !!! Lots of times it is a total pain in the ass and would seem to not be worth it when working on your own stuff. But then you learn a lot, can offer advice to others and you will have a better idea how everything else works together by doing your own work. Even laying on your back or hanging upside down, after you are done YOU have done it. Right on bro !!!!

Hell yeah man! I never let the garage do any of my work i research a lot and it's a trial and error man.
But its all well worth it in the end! You are very much right you do learn and know how things work in your car.

Yeah thats the one I took props to you or who ever came up with it. Its simple cheap and it looks good the kind of things I like.
I like prennro roof rack with the spare tire that was genius props to him on that one too.

That was actually knottyys idea, but works great!

    Truckersatlas,
Nice work on pedal assembly. I prob will be messing with mine soon as i will prob be converting to full hydro and need to add support to thethe bracket with my engine swap. As truckslammer said, the hard work will all be worth it and more gratifying in the end, no matter how long it takes, knowing that you successfully did it yourself!

Lmk if u decide to go back to the yard. I need some small brown interior pieces. PM me and i will send you a "want list" with pics

The outside looks fresh. Dented driver side fender so I know its real. I do not know why every single brown interior looks so bad before a member gets it.

Thanks I appreciate it wasnt that hard at all it was just really time consuming. Please take some pics and the steps you take to do change it to hydro that would be awesome Im sure a lot more people would appreciate it too. Id like to see how you would make the pedal assemble more sterdy.
Ill make sure ill pm you If I go back there Im sure I will but I just dont know when. What do you think about the back head rest do you think thats a pretty good deal because im on the fence about that decision?

Ill have more pics up tomorrow with the seats and carpet out and the cleaning Ive done so far.

Haha yeah I dont know man it kinda odd isnt it? The pictures in the build doesnt do it justice. It looks way more dirty in person.
  • Here is some pics of the cleaning I did it took about two days But it was all worth it in the end since the wagon didnt smell like complete doo doo. haha
The only hard part was getting the carpet up and out of place right behind the radio so I just cut it. :/

    6.jpg

All this stuff was just caked in nasty thick dirty and grease

I took out the carpet and its so old is was crispy... I cleaned it with dawn and joy 5 times with the water hose and let it dry in the sun every time and the last time i cleaned it i shop vaced the dirt and water out of it.
The difference was amazing it was plush and so much more fluffy like carpet should be instead of that flat wore out look that im sure many of you understand.

I took all the lights out as you can see and polished them it made them look like new. I polished each one about 5 times each and then after that you could see yourself in them.
that is the before pic of the lights before i polished them.

You can sort of tell in this picture that the tail lights have been polished

I took the front bumper off while I was in a cleaning mood and polished the head lights and washed the bumper inside and out plus cleaned the front end. I dont think i took any pics of the after of the front end when I got done but it really wasnt too dirty.

    31.jpg

And I took off the hood and purple powered it to death all day because that shit was fucking thick....

Nice work on the cleaning! Man what a difference some soap, water and a while lot of elbow grease makes! As far as the headrest, i have no clue. My thought is if u need it, have found one that matches and in good shape, then get it. Interior parts are hard to come by, especially if u can justify the cost. Haggle on price and flash cash, or bundle with some other things to make it more worth it.
Ill document my swap for sure. Just need TIME! Arrr:nightmare:
