rexman's RT 4WD Wagovan

Band Wagon
Hi all, I'm Shane. I had been looking for a wagon since the beginning of '06. I'm proud to announce that I bought my first "EE" wagon about two weeks ago from fellow member "doitdub" who had recently purchased the wagovan from "senomar".
Thanks Justin!
It's a 1990 RT 4WD, completely stock with 153k on the mighty d16A6.
doitdub's "ketchup and mustard" thread...

I live in Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania and traveled to dub's place in Fort Wayne, Indiana to pick up my new daily driver. I rented an '08 Toyota Corolla one way and I'm happy to report I got the same gas mileage from this 17 year old Civic as I did with the brand new Corolla w/13k on it's odometer!
Round trip was an avg. of 650 miles with 11 hours of driving.
Each vehicle used approx. 7/8th of it's tanks capacity judging by eye the position of each fuel needle. Saying each car's tank capacity is 12gal. full and 7/8th of 12 = an average of 10.5 gallons used one way = 21 gallons round trip and @ an avg. of $3.10gal. = $65.10 round trip.
The first thing I did was swap my black rota slips with azenis on and give'r a bath.
She came with full set of edm crx shocks and springs. Only the fronts are on. The rear are still 17 yr.old stock usdm shocks and springs. So the rear sits higher than the front.
It also came with a set of DC/GSR front and rear sway bars.
(Anybody know if these can these be retro fitted? -Thanks.)
I plan on fixing the body first and then adding a jackon supercharger later for more torque and power. I did not choose turbo because the goal isn't about high hp it's about a balanced approach between modification and practicality. It's my daily driver so I want to keep A/C and power steering.
The ease of installation and the simplicity of a supercharger is unmatched. Because I will use the wagon as a daily driver the majority of my driving is in the city with some light highway use. Also, the geography in Pittsburgh is very "hilly". (see pic below) This makes a torquey supercharger an easy, economical and practical choice.
After 17 years it was time to repaint all 3 wiper arms. Before paint...
The rear wiper arm stud and nut were oxidized and in need of some PB blaster before removal.
Here are the tools I used.
-minus a 1/4" driver w/ 10mm socket.
This is a very helpful metric bolt, washer, and nut kit I purchased from Advanced Auto for something like 15. bucks.
After paint...
I also painted the rear muffler section. Now it's stealth and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
Betty is my co-pilot.
Here's the trunk area. I plan on mounting the speakers in the corners and getting a 10" sub and amp.
(How hard is it to find a rear deck lid?)
I want an '89 teg front bumper chin spoiler and to paint the valve cover.
Tonight I installed my Magnecor wires and aftermarket intake elbow and k&n style valve cover breather.
Next up is a good buffing and wax. Then painting all exterior trim with a fresh coat of black and adding a red pinstripe!

Welcome to the site, BTW, and nice work so far on the body... looking forward to seeing it as it progresses.
It's lookin great already, Shane! The slips look so much better than the crap that were on there. I can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve for this one...
send pix when you do.
love the rotas my wife has bronze rotas on her rt4wd wagon.
keep up the great work!
Thanks! Yea, I noticed alot of us old heads "graduated" from one "EF" platform to another. I found this site about a yr. ago when I began looking for a wagon as a daily driver. Your puddin is in hella nice shape. 8)
Hell yea mang. I'm cleanin up the body while slowly upgrading the suspension and brakes first. I can't wait to bust out the red pinstipe on the car and wheels!
Btw, how's the carolina's treat you and da'Lynz?
I'm going custom coilover next spring. So I'm selling the EDM shock/spring crx set-up. If anybody is interested lmk.
yea Rota's are cheap, lightweight, and look great on Honda's. Do you have a intro or member's ride thread with pics?
Shane
yay.
New hinge.
First, the hood is removed and so is the cowl and wiper arms.
At 17yrs. old she's got some dirt built up.
I used wd40, greased lightning, and brake cleaner to clean and prep the surface.
Next, I used a wire brush and flat head screwdriver to scrape at the rust.
With a brush, I apply 3 thin coats of Rustmort which is like POR15.
Time to clean that mud and dirt up.
That's better.
Here you can see the relocation test fit of the mass airflow sensor and the shock tower plug bracket is bent downward to fit under the strut tower bar. Remove the shock tower plugs from the bracket and bend with vise grips.
Here is the tab I bent on the m.a.f. sensor bracket. It will rest on the fire wall.
And here is my bolt with two nuts to hold the bracket to its new location.
Highlighted in red and green these vac lines were lengthened.
Damn, I need to paint that vc.
Thanks. Nah, it's a Password bar.

I like the vinyl "black-out" on your hatch. The Civic wing looks good too. Did you glue it onto the wagon wing?
Shane
We're still kind of moving in, but it already feels like home. We really like it here. Everywhere you go is beautiful.
You got a job yet? If not, you should come bum around at our place for a few days. Take a break man...you been workin too hard. :P
haha yea ima wait till spring to rock the red stripe.
The carolinas are hella sweet.
no job yet i'd love to road trip.
i wish i had tickets to the rage against the machine concert in Las Vegas later this month.
it was my friend, it was. 8)
Thanks It's bolted to the hatch.I cut a rectangular hole in the Wgn wing.Rear 3rd brake lite is Plug N Play.If you're going to do it I'd recommend the JDM EF SiR wing(Only prob is it's much more $$$).It's plastic so will be much easier to modded for bolting or gluing on & LOOKS Nicer especially with the longer brake lite.
ok, how's that?
Merry Christmas bishes!
BTW, does anyone have 4 RT centercaps for sale? coz i has none.
Please share the method you used to remove the plastic cowl. I replaced the passenger-side hood hinge and could not remove the little plugs in the cowl so, since my current cowl is already damaged, and I have one to replace it, I snapped off the part of the cowl that covers the hinge and did it that way.
Next sping/summer I plan to repaint the wiper arms and swap in my replacement cowl so any hints/instructions on cowl-removal would be appreciated.
Np, after removing both wiper arms, use a prying tool like the one shown in this pic...
or a narrow flathead screwdriver to remove the circular discs from the cowl exposing the philips head mounting screws. Remove those and now carefully remove plastic clips that hold the rubber seal to the firewall bulkhead. I can snap some pics in the daylight.
Yes, I do. Only bought because I thought somebody on here could use them, though most seem to run non-stock wheels. I forget what I paid...not much. $20 you pay shipping?
(needs a clean naturally )
Then all the other candidates = FWD
How bout that analogy?
Alright, maybe it wasn't the best. How about...
RON PAUL 08 because Rexman's Wago says so!
