which one is the one when you hear a click..click sound when you step on your brakes while beginning to brake/slow down. the sound comes from the front..
is that also a tie rod end problem? or a rack and pinion gear problem?
i know it's not the axle boots because i went down there and they're both fine.

Could be a ton of things really, ball joints, bad steering rack bushings.
To the original owner, innder tie rods are pretty hard to replace.
i think it's the steering rack..it needs to be replaced..along with the tie rod end boots. (i took pictures of the torn boots last time i was down there changing my alternator)
i need to take a look at the helms manual and see how big of a job it's going to be.

god damn it. it's the fucking master cylinder piston fucking up. i just picked up a new one from the Honda Dealership.
why are these tie rod ends different? (yes they are both outer tie rod ends)
the first one is longer and the second one is much shorter. but they are both for the 90' civic wagon 2wd..what gives? the first one cost about $40 dollars and you only get 1..the second cost about $30 dollars and they will give you two.

I finally found out what the damn problem was. I had this annoying popping/clicking sound coming from the front brake area of my wagon.
I thought it was my left side tie rod going bad so I bought brand new tie rods and replaced those a few days ago. I thought it was my steering boots because they were torn when I went under there and maybe thought the lack of grease was an issue, I went and bought new steering boots and replaced both of them. I then thought it was my master cylinder piston popping/clicking when I applied pedal pressure. I went and got a brand new nissin 15/16ths MC last month and installed that too.
All in all, I spent about $200 dollars trying to find out what that damn popping sound was all about. Low and behold, I do my brake job today and find that the inner pad clip was contorted and twisted. The thing was sitting right and was under pressure, thereby 'popping' when I stepped on the brake pedal.
A 5 cent clip cause all the problem.
Still, I'm glad I went and did that other stuff, cuz the tie rod ends didn't look like they'd last another summer without replacement..and the boots definitely needed to be changed and the new MC? it works like a charm, I feel much better stopping with it.

why bother changing just the ball joint on the tie rod when you can get a new tie rod end and bolt that right up instead of having to deal?
well this is the list i see from thepartsbin.com

i just wanted to know what the 2nd photo was b/c it didn't look like the first but yet it is advertised as the first on that website.
and akiraboy was reffering to the actual ball joints on the control arm/spindle, not the ball joints on the tie rod end.
