Shipping a fender problem...

So I had a buyer lined up to buy a fender. Shipping from El Paso TX to Washington state. 100 bucks plus. Total would have been around 150 to ship, which I find ridiculous. 7.05 lbs. USPS and lady at Mailbox Shipping store both measured the box and said that they charged for dimentional weight, which would put the box at 56 lbs!!! Has anyone else had this issue and/or is there a smarter way to ship?

  • I had 2 fenders shipped to me for 62 (dallas from cali). After looking around and quoting on UPS it seems fairly standard, maybe a bit high.

For starters, do things yourself. Everyone is in business to make money. Hence inflated price.

Second, stay away from USPS. There's a reason they are so far in the hole.

Last month I shipped a fender across Washington state and it cost me $21. That's using my work discount (I ship about 5 packages a day, we have our own software/printer). So I'm guessing it would probably cost around $30 for me to ship to Texas.

Throw in $20 box, and there ya go.

    Gotta pay to play.

USPS was 95, UPS 118, and FEDEX 101, all standard shipping, nothing special, no overnight, nada. Damn, I should ship from work, but I don't think my school district would appreciate that.

Maybe I'm the only one a little confused by your posts.

I thought you were saying the shipping was $50? And the fender was $100?

I bought a fender from California last year and the shipping was around $30.

Somethings not adding up... my guess it's the box size. It matters just like weight. There's different levels.

Maybe I said it wrong, selling fender for 40 plus the shipping. The shipping killed the deal.

You better buy that fender! lol

I've got too many fenders, I feel badly for the guy who wanted to buy it cuz it just wasn't worth it for him. If you have any lying around PM me so we can get him a fender. He's in WA.

Pack it yourself. Then worry about shipping.

I'm guessing they were going to put it in a huge box. I originally planned to do that myself but it was something like $45. So I cut the box down so it fit snug to the fender. And it cut the price more than half.

Dude shouldn't be pissed about $150 for a fender shipped. Fenders go for around $100 themselves.

Box was cut out to size of fender, like when you buy from a body panel shop. Did it myself. Guess I should look into the whole ship from home software. So, really, 100 for a fender? I see I was selling it for cheap...Dude wasn't pissed, good buyer, I was pissed cuz it was so much.
  • I shipped 2 fenders yesterday 61 dollars and some change. - felt that was not bad at all.
Box size is the $ killer! Shipped ups Cali - Texas. Also ship from the hub not a stupid postal annex they raise the price to make their share.

I don't know man. Those prices are stupid. I can understand your frustration.

Just contemplating, wondering if it could have something to do with where you live? I know that city has trafficking issues. I wonder if it could have something to do with security or something.

You can do your shipments online. You don't need the software. We just have it because we ship so much. I do all our FedEx stuff online (certain customers). I stay far away from USPS lol but if you can swing a better rate, ship away...

    Words of wisdom.

Silver, I may have to look into that, because I did go to a postal annex type place. First place was the USPS office, but second was mailbox place. I thought it was super pricey because Fakejdm just sent me a roof rack that cost 27 to ship and weighs like 20 plus pounds.

Just quoted it on Fedex.com. Asked for dimension of box and weight, 12 bucks for like 4 day shipping. Not bad. I will be going into the Actual stores for these shippers next time. Problem solved. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Here is a thing most of you might not know.

FEDex store, UPS store and mailbox stores are not the same pricing as online.

They have to pay for the store front.

I do all my shipping straight from the house, shedule pick ups etc.

I'm using a regular printer and just a tape gun to tape up the boxes.

You can even request boxes from usps and they will bring them to you (that usually takes a week or two)
