Auto transmission took a dump today...

on the way to work at 5 a.m......wouldn't shift out of first:disturbed: I knew it had been going for sometime but I just wanted it to last a little bit longer!! It seems like the Auto trans is a stain on the otherwise golden crown Honda owns. Why do you think Honda did such a terrible job on these?? Good news is that Moe from EF parts has one I'm checking out thursday.

  • Moe to the rescue. Ben did you check the fluid and did you check the solenoid. Mine did the same thing on my four door sedan. I Swap the extra one out of the wagon and it shifted perfect. I dont know if that would help but it did for me. Just FYI
  • checked the fluid (pink and full) but did not check the solenoid. Any way I can check the solenoid without an extra? This tranny has shifted through the gears much too soon since the day I bought it. Doesn't really seem like it slips, just shifts too soon and now is stuck in first gear!! LOL

  • Probably find someone with a true honda repair manual to check the spec. or run to pick and pull you can get a used one. This can also be a govenor in side the trans. I can get a rebuild kit is $131.80 torque converter $180.00 $100.00 core. I might have a guy that can rebuild it. I just don't know how long it would be for him to do it. He does it for a living and does it on the side.

    Yes sir Sorry
  • Moe did me a huge solid today and let me borrow a solenoid he had. I just wanna be really sure that it isn't something smaller before I put a used tranny in it I have no history on! I will let you know if the solenoid works and go from there! I also noticed the wire going to the solenoid plug was hanging on by a few wire threads....may have burnt out the solenoid?

  • so the shifting solenoid worked!!! Thank you Moe and 1sleeperwagon!! I changed out the tranny fluid with genuine honda ATF and every gear except 2rd going into 3rd is smooth as silk. That gear slips a little. Gonna drive it all day tomorrow and see what happens.
