Carpet removal help - under dash

I just about have my carpet removed from my 1990 wagon. The last thing i need to do is under the dash and remove carpet from the black part of what looks like a tube/vent for the heater. How do I unfasten that? I almost want to cut the back side of the carpet even though I'm going to use it again.

Sorry for the post but I'm not the best wrench and trying my best to do everything myself.

    I was going to say just cut it. I did and you can't tell at all once its all put back.

    Didn't want to make a new thread so I have the same dilemma. It looks like the radio/hvac trim needs to come off and what was mention above. Is the only way to get the carpet out to cut it? My carpet needs a gooooooooood wash. Plus are there any drains in the body to let water out? I'm gonna have to wash the whole inside. The trunk seems to have a drain but the previous owner has it sealed with some kind of sealant it looks like.

    Advices and suggestions will be much appreciated.
