A/C issues

So the story goes,

About 1yr ago I purchased a Brand New OEM A/C kit that had been sitting in storage for 20 years. I changed all the seals to R134a ones (except for the thermal expansion one), had new oil put in and gassed up. It was working sweet until today.

The compressor shaft seal failed and released all the oil and gas... Now a new seal kit is about $100-120 which is alot considering I paid only $100 for the A/C kit.

Should I get a 2nd hand compressor and use the seal from it? I really don't want to change the compressor considering it is still new.

Also should I change the thermal expansion valve as well because it was originally meant for R12 gas? Do they differ between R134a and R12?

Thanks in advance!!

Well did the compressor have any type of warranty at all? If not I would say buy one maybe from a junkyard. Alot of systems have already been change so you will find already one thats been change and with some life in it. This way you can buy the thermal expansion valve and more freon.
