New guy on the block has got some questions for you!

Hello everyone, This is my first wagon and well my first carb car i have ever owned so i have one mechanical question to start off with. The car runs good when its above like 50 degrees outside but if it has been sitting and it gets down in the 30's overnight it WILL not idel like if you stop or let off the gas it will die. If its warm weather it idels fine and never shuts off? i have not taken anything apart yet because i dont like digging into something i know nothing about. So any advice is welcome.

Second im looking to replace my passenger side cv axle and other parts. Advance auto has all the parts that i need EXCEPT they do not show a listing for a passenger side only driver side? and the lift gate shocks they do not show a listing for? does anyone have a cross reff part number or something for those parts?

Thanks in advance!

  • After it has had time to get to operating temp, will it still die in sub-50's?
  • No it will not unless the temp outside has gone up to the 60's
  • So someone explain something to me.. Why does O'reilly auto parts show certain parts fit the wagon and the sedan and when you put the parts in at advance they do not? too make this more clear.. When you search for 1986 honda wagovan on advance they show NO lift support parts that fit. BUT when you go to oreilly they show there lift support fits the wagon AND the 1986 civic dx.. So then when you go back to advance and change the car to a 1986 civic dx it then shows they sell a lift support strut. I don't understand this? Hope that makes sense.

Oh and too add too this the part that O'reilly says fits auto zone says it does not.... wtf.

Am I understanding correct that it will not idle in the 30s and 60s but ok in the 50s? As far as the hatch struts, good luck. I havent found a set aftermarket or on line for a 86 DX Wagon. They are discontinued at the dealer also. As far as axles a company called EMPI makes them.
