Hello! And a couple of questions... :)

Hi all,

Just a quick intro post. I bought my brother's red RT4WD manual wagon when he moved out of the country, and have been slowly trying to make it look and work better. It was more rust than car, but we're well on our way to restoring its honor. :) I discovered this forum by accident, after joining the Civic EF group on Facebook. Awesome to find a more focused wagon owners' group; the FB group is nice, but forums are far better.

Anyhow, a couple of questions:

1) Has anyone changed the stock speakers and/or can recommend a good brand? At least one front speaker is not working in my wagon, and though I'd like to keep the car mostly stock, speakers would be something I wouldn't mind upgrading.

2) Has anyone done soundproofing (noise insulation) and cares to share their experience? I'm thinking of doing that in the spring; just wondered if there are any words of wisdom from people who have done it before. I just drove from Michigan to Georgia over New Year's, and the sound could get quite deafening at times.

Thanks for any and all info. Glad to be a wagon owner!

    Welcome along!

Speakers: I've been happy with Kicker 6 1/2" in one wagon, about $60. Another has JVCs from Walmart, $40ish, they're pretty good as well. just buy a "3 way" set (built in mids and tweeters), they'll have a better range of sound than the single-cone stockers.

Soundproofing? I don't know that we've seen anything definitive. Most of that Dynamat type stuff is pretty heavy, a buddy of mine just did Hushmat (i think) in his Mini. supposed to be lighter.
Most of my noise seems to come from the roof. I'm thinking of adding some 1/2" thick sheathing foam board between headliner and roof skin.

If you were coming to GA, should've given us a heads-up.
  • Thanks, bam-bam! I'll be looking for speakers in the next few weeks. $40-60 is more than reasonable. The soundproofing will have to wait until the spring or even summer, because I don't have a heated garage, and trying to do it in 20 degrees and/or wearing gloves is asking for a sloppy job. LOL

Couldn't give you a heads-up before the GA trip... I didn't even know about this forum's existence until yesterday! :-S
