wow, thats pretty awesome- those are some purdy looking welds...
  • Very Cool. Very nice welds, I think after this thread we will be seeing a lot of widened wheels, I just hope their welds are as good. Dangerous mod if they don't know what they are doing.

How did you cut the centers out of the chevy wheels?
  • AMAZING! great work! looks like I'm on the hunt for RT wheels LOL

    Good job!

This is exactly the way we used to make wheels for our dune buggies, using the centers from 5 lug 14" VW bus wheels. I welded up the valve stem holes and redrilled them to put the bigger lip outside.

I thought about doing this on goldie, but way back then I had access to a lathe to true the wheels on, I'm afraid I wouldn't get them true/symmetrical/ balanced. On the rail buggies it didn't matter much.
Were you able to balance them pretty easily?

I cut chevy centers using oxy- acetylene. I fliped barrels also so valve stem is on the inside makes for more of a dish look. I fixtured up a hub to true wheels and they come out straight and balance out fine.

do you have any pics of the jig you set up for this? this is so cool! Just noticed your an hour and a half north of me. I live down in Albany Oregon. Anyhow, great job!
  • Interested in doing a set of wheels for me?

Please PM me if you are willing to, I need something that pokes out a good inch or two so i can run wider tires.

Super clean and well done, very impressive!

Ah! That's how you did it! Forgot I messaged you asking about this. Never heard back. That's awesome. I'm curious about the jig you used for this as well? 15x8, but what's the offset now?

  • When will these be going on the wagon? i want to see just how far out they poke. Looking to have some of my own made.

    THANKS

16 is doable but might look funny (on RT4WD wheels) with the extra band on the centers might be worth a try. I could easly do a stock honda 15 center on an after market 16 barrel. I think chad has pics of them on his car in his build thread.
  • wow, can't wait to see em on, my socks have offically been rocked today! thanks for sharing!
  • Pics on the wago! Super clean looking job.. would love a set or even a DIY Tutorial :friendly_wink:
