Well, I can do French, Dutch and, of course, English. I agree though that we should keep it in English so the remainder of the Forum can follow. :P

I lived near the city of Nijmegen for a year (back in the early eithies). I don't know why the Dutch language has stuck for so long but I'm glad it did. Lately though I'm getting more practice on my German but that's okay. My friend Dan recently gave me an entire collection of Nena retrospective CDs so I've been playing that at the office and in the car. LOL

I like the pictures you've posted. The wagon is a very nice shade of blue. Is the sunroof stock or aftermarket? I certainly like that solar-powered set-up for sucking out the hot air, it's a good idea.

    Tot straks!! (See you later)

always handy if you speak a few languages he, I'm trying to learn Swedish now but it's very difficult :? :?

about the sunroof, I've been looking around trying to find out if it's stock or not but so far I'm still not sure. there no honda partnumber on the roof itself but according to the previous owner it was already on the car when he bought it new from the dealership. but I've also found out that the car is an import from holland and not an original belgian car so they ma have put the sunroof in in holland before it came to the belgian dealership.

nice pics. love what you've done to the car.

keep us updated on what you do with the sound system in the audio section, that section needs some new flavor lol

    again, nice wagon!

I'll make a new topic in that section when I get all of the work done ;-)
  • time for an update :D

woke up this morning and it was a nice day outside (meaning cold but no rain for a change) so I decided to work on my onw car a bit in stead of always working on my friends rides.

I wanted to lay all my wires for my install, so power, signal and remote.

first job, strip the wagon !!

    dsc07946bs7.jpg

    dsc07947ko7.jpg

this is the pile of parts I took out

    dsc07954tj9.jpg

then it was time to clean it all up because it was still really filthy from the previous owner (never really gotten to clean out the trunk)
as you can see there was allot of dirt in the back and I also found some really weird wiring ?! :?

    dsc07953gj1.jpg

    dsc07948vr8.jpg

    dsc07949ml7.jpg

    dsc07950le2.jpg

    dsc07951ff8.jpg

    dsc07952oa9.jpg

so after I vacuumed most of it out, I started cleaning it with some hot water. and it came out really nice.

    clean VS dirty

  • next job was to actually lay down the wires.

    first, the power.

    dsc07958ny8.jpg

    dsc07959de7.jpg

    dsc07960ss7.jpg

    it's on the passengers side.

then signal and remote on the drivers side.

    dsc07961co5.jpg

this is where they end up.

    dsc07962ax1.jpg

and this is where I went true the firewall with the powerwire.

    dsc07963sa1.jpg

and then it was time to put the puzzle back together.

  • sorry about the blurry pics, I really need a new camera.

tomorrow I'll be putting the rest back in and hopefully start with some more woodwork for my speakers in the rear.
  • Wow, you took the whole thing apart. Today, I actually ran a 4 gauge power, remote, enough speaker wire for 4 front speakers (bi-amping the front stage and no rear speakers FTW), and 3 rca cables. I don't really need the 4 gauge but I got all the power/rca cables for free from work so I can't complain. My amps are rated so that maxed out they would put out about 1000 ish watts rms (aka continuous).

I will be running BG Neo 3 tweeters at the bottom of the pillar at the windshield, Dayton Reference RS150 Mid (6") at the stock location but possibly modded to change the angle, and Tang band 6.5" subs in a ported enclosure fiberglassed underneath the front seats (it will be a tight fit, one under each seat). I might just run my JL 10W6 for the sub tho, not 100% sure.

I got my trusty old eclipse headunit (I'd have to check to get the exact model number, but its pretty loaded and cost a pretty penny as well). I have an Aura Sound amp (speakers, front stage) and a Hifonics amp for my sub.

What system are you planning for?

damn, that's a lot of wire  8)

I'm gonna start of plain and simple, 2 kicker woofers (pics are at the top of this page) they will play true my 4 channel kicker amp (forget witch model it is) and then some 6*9 MTX for the rear and some pioneer or kenwood speakers for the front (have to try to hear witch sounds best)
all the speakers will just be hooked on the radio for the time being.
my radio is an Alpine (CDE-9871RR), I can change that to if I want because I have some extra laying around. (2 kenwood and pioneer)

in the future I would like a nice compo set for the front (don't really know what brand yet but maybe hertz) and get an extra amp for all the speakers. but that's not really for now, I just want some bass back in the car. you really start missing it when you drive about half a year without any radio.

I like to get the car painted in feb or march so I'm not gonna spend cash on this I don't need now. all of the components I have laying around the house from my other car.
  • Sweet. I got everything laying around except for the speakers from my last car.

You should check out some of the mobile car audio forums. I got hooked on using home audio drivers in my vehicle because I think you can get much better sound for a lower price. One of my friends bought a $250 set of components that didn't sound very good at all (the three way kenwoods in my car now sound much better IMO). My $60 of speakers sounded better to me (and when I pulled them out I realized I didn't have the headunit set up optimally) but that also took more money on the amplifier end of things (but I don't ever upgrade amps unless one dies, so its a good investment IMO). I'd recommend boston acoustics components because they sound pretty good but I don't think I would have paid as much as my other friend paid for his, but they're much easier to set up and use on factory radios.

I'm just saying you might want to check out some other options instead of just going with the plug n play type of things. I guess it also depends what sound you want (spl, sql, or sq) because I find myself emphasizing SQ way before the spl. My friends used to get in my car and ask me if my sub was playing. My response was something along the lines of, " Yes, but its playing at the same loudness as the speakers. Its how I like to listen to music, as close to as it was recorded as possible."

EDIT: I also wanted to compliment you on your choice of woofers. Another friend had a set of compVRs that sounded excellent and pounded like mad when needed.

thx man, I'm going to check into that. do you have some links or a website ?

and I really like my woofers, paid alot of money for them but there well worth it + I'm the only one with these woofers in europe. Limited Edition rules 8)
  • From off of the top of my head. You can buy them at partsexpress.com and madisound.com. Some forums are diyaudio.com (i think thats more home audio), elitecaraudio.com, caraudioforum.com, and diymobileaudio.com.

I'll warn you that you can sick a lot of money into this if you become addicted.

I know it's for the tow hitch, I meant that is was weird that every wire is in the same color.
I changed them yesterday and labeled them so if I ever take it of I know where everything goes.

I don't think I will ever sell it, I use it quit a bit. but if I ever do I'll let you know ;-)

    @ eldonciv; thx ;-)
  • oke today I put the last pieces back in and finished all the woodwork, plugged my rear speakers in so the people in the back have some music to. Now I still have to wait to put the amp and woofers in because I only have 1 woofer here. the amp and other woofer are still at my buddies place in my other car. No pics today because the batteries died on me but I'll take some tomorrow.
  • today I cleaned up my engine bay a bit, wasn't in to bad a state.

    dsc07969ko6.jpg

this is how it turned out.

    dsc07973fm1.jpg

also finally put my wagon in 4WD, I love it. maybe tomorrow I'll go find some hills to clime :D

how did you clean your engine bay?
  • quarters wrote:

    sponge and a rag.
most of the dirt came of with hot water, the places where it was greasy I first sprayed some engine cleaner on and let it sit for a while, then I cleaned them of with water.

I know it's for the tow hitch,

Can you take a picture from further away of the boot please.
I've got a hitch here for a civic and think it'll fit but nice to be able to compare from your photo with my boot :)

I like your japan sticker. and the bracket with the 2 slots that hold your plate in the middle.

Can you take some photos of how the hitch bolts on from under?

thx, the bracket for the plate is comming of soon, I just want my plate in there.

I'll take some shots of how it all bolts up tomorrow, was planning on doing that today but it was raining outside and I didn't feel like crawling under my wagon on the wet asfalt.

I have one but it's not really clear on how it bolt's up. took it by just aiming the camera under the car and shooting

and this is how the tow part is bolted to the parts that are bolted to the chassis.

hope everything is clear. if not, just ask ;-)

Dang, thats one nice wagon and imagine pretty rare for anyplace in Europe. For all the time I have spent there I have only seen a few Honda's from that era, 88 through 91, and of the ones I have seen have been nowhere as nice.

I have to hand it to ya, I sure with we had that color of blue, its sure nicer than the light blue we got here and how I wish I had that rear compartment cover as it is pretty sweet also. Lastly, I have to laff at the idea of air conditioning for most of Europe. I can only remember one car that I had as a rental that had A/C and that was an Alfa Romeo 166 3.0.

your right any pre '90 honda in good condition is pretty rare over here, most of the pre '90 ones are so rusted you just don't have the time/effort/money to restore them.

I recently talked to an older man with an EF sedan, was in mint condition (no rust what so ever, +/- 62.000 km on it) + he was still the first owner. I gave him my phone number and told him that if he ever sold it to give me a call :D

some of the older honda's over here had A/C in them but most of them were imported from Italy or another southern country in Europe.
  • Thanks for the pics. Your's is totally different to mine. It's what over here we'd call the more Euro look.
As we've become more Europe, our hitches start to look more like yours' I guess our's sucked for years but no one told us

Mine is a straight bar which has a single bolt to the wheel well and a bar which would sit on the back of the chassis behind the lights and has two bolts each side. I think you'd take a lot more weight then me :?

I legally can tow +/- 1400 kilo. I was amazed of the number put really pleased also :D
  • Over here there isn't any legal checking done at time of install or regulation at least for older cars. I think newer cars have a provision for a towbar from the factory.
For the old cars the fitters just make one up as they think is best.

The law here states 750Kg without trailer brakes and 3500kg with them. But the maximum weight depends on the tow car.
Here it'll go by whatever is in the manual from the manufacturer, which I've not checked for the shuttle yet. I'm hoping I can tow a car on a trailer.

Might have to come to Belgium to get one fitted
  • the 1400 kg is what's in the honda manual 8)
  • This is from German Tuv

Without brakes it says NO MORE than 535 KG
With brakes it says NO MORE than 1380 KG

Again this is what the Germans allow on this particular car a 1992 Honda Shuttle (or wagon).
