Wagon lost power and died while driving yesterday :( 91 rt

For a while now my wagons been acting funny... Sometimes only when warm it would be very hard to start.. This has been going on occasionally over the last 6 months or so pry 3 or 4 times it did that. Then just a week or two ago while driving the engine lost all power and was dying, but i was able to pop the clutch and get it up and running again. Then it seemingly was running fine again... Now yesterday it did the same thing again, accept this time it didnt restart.. well for a few seconds it did, but just chugged and sputtered then quit. I thought it might be a problem with the fuel pump, but today i changed the filter, and i can hear the pump priming, i sprayed some carb cleaner down its throat and it didnt seem to do anything. I havent been able to check spark yet, dont have anyone to crank on it while i look. Hopefully will later today though.. What do you guys think this sounds most like?

  • Sounds ignition coil related if it does it when its warm and been running.

step one is definitely check spark.
if you dont have any, its most likely the distributor. or, perhaps something as simple as the rotor button being loose.

Ok.. I checked spark... It appears to have good spark. It has fuel from the pump.. sprayed a little more carb cleaner down it.. didnt seem to make a difference.. it almost started a few times before spraying cleaner down it. now its lugging the starter down at a cirtain point everytime i crank on it.. like one of the cylinders might be filled up with fuel or something :( anymore ideas?

if you got spark and fuel, and still no go i wold check your timing.
the timing belt may have jumped a few teeth...

Figured it out.. Screw came out of the distributor rotor.. Any idea size screw that is for those>?

    called it! :P
its really small lol. it should still be in there somewhere, as there really isnt any opening for it to fall out.. worst comes to worst, buy a rotor from auto parts store. cheap, and comes with the screw.

i actually got a new rotor atlready and it didnt come with one.. i will look around closer in there and see if it might be floating around.. very very good call lol you called it right on the head!!

strange, it should have come with a screw?
    hope you find it!
  • Make sure you get that old screw out of the dizzy. Don't want that flying around in there. Nice Wagodizzle, haha. I've been there once, my rotor screw was loose and letting it flop all over the place.

Update - First and foremost thank you everyone for your help. Wagodizzle you hit the nail on the head in everything that you said :) The screw actually fell out of the cap silently when i took the cap off.. Once i figured it was no where in the Dizzy i ran a magnet into anywhere i couldn't see that it could have hung up.. With in about a min it was ridding the magnet!! Got her all back together and it runs better then it has since i have had it.. Fuel mileage appears to be way better as well... I love a happy ending.. Thanks everyone!!
