RPM's not working

I have a 90 wagon with a y8 swap on it. When I got it the wagon already had the engine in it and what the guy call a semi tuck and obd 1 conversion on it. But what bothers me is the rpm guage does not work n I dont even know where to start cause every time I start looking for wires I get side track by other disconected wires from a sorry conversion that was done. Can anybody help me and point me into a good starting point

  • I have came across this many times and that is why I stopped buying vehicles that had already been swapped. So what I would do is start fresh take everything apart and re wire it right.
  • Trace the wire from the dizzy that goes to the rev counter. You will have to look up a wiring diagram to confirm what colour it is because I can remember. Blue maybe?

This has the wiring at the back of the cluster. The blue wire is the one your looking for.

The plug with two wires going to your distributor has a blue wire which is the other end of the one that goes to the cluster. I would test for a signal wile the car is running at the cluster and/or continuity between the two locations while the car is not. If there isn't a connection between the two, run your own wire. If you like, send me pics of all the "interesting" spots of the wiring conversion and I might be able to let you know how to get it all replaced with conventional methods. As long as none of the chassis wiring was hacked too bad should be relatively easy.
