1991 wagon/1990 si swap questions

Hey guys,

I have a 1991 wagon fwd 5 speed.
I also have a 1990 hatch si 5 speed with the d16a6 engine.

The body on my hatch is shot, i did only buy the car for only a few hundred dollars, but it does run amazing. I'm debating taking the a6 out of the si and putting it in my wagon for a little more passing power and better engine to build off of.

My question is, should I need anything extra for this? Shouldn't the engine just bold right in and be as easy as that? I've been digging around online and I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for!

Would swapping the a6 be worth it? I mean, I've already got the engine. Does anyone recommend anything better? I just figured i could eventually do mini me and a turbo kit sometime down the road.

Thanks for all of the help!

Everything will simply bolt in. You'll have to do the "MPFI swap" wiring, which instructions can be easily found.

    Yes, do it!

Or you could always just do the mpfi swap if the d15 is in good shape. Then you can sell the motor or keep it to build up how you want. Your mpfi equipped d15 will feel very similar to the d16 anyway and then you can just swap over the d16 when it is ready.

    Thanks for the help guys!

Is there really any difference between the stock wagon engine and the si engine besides a few more horses?

Also, my si has cruise, is that possible to use in the wagon that has no cruise?

Sorry guys! lol But I have another question for you! Is this the "MPFI swap" I am looking for? Do they make a pre-made harness for the swap? Or is this something i'm going to have to solder up myself?

    Thanks!

That ain't it. You'll have to mod the car's harness at the least.
  • I'm in process of doing the MPFI swap right now. You need four wires to go to your ecu, cut and splice the harness under the hood, re pin the ecu plug and use the pm6 ecu
