Hitch got installed tonight. My neck is super fucked up, but took about two hours, including a ride to home depot on the motorbike for some bolts.
I picked up the Curt for about $135 shipped via amazon prime. I'll say this (pictures this weekend), the big bolt for the tow loop is a joke and I have no idea how they expect anyone to use that, ever. Went and got something a little smaller and it went in just fine. Will it hold up alright? Who knows. I also had a bitch of a time with the plastic pieces that cover the bumper bolts. They didn't make it back on, maybe next time.
pics coming soon, but nothing you haven't seen before
in other awesome news, a buddy of mine got rear ended in his 130K 2002 DX Civic. I'm picking it up for $1200, do a few fixes so it looks semi-normal and then parking the wagon for an engine rebuild instead of a swap, pretty fucking pumped!
edit: the car isn't THAT bad, new bumper, new trunk lid and I should be good more or less, stoked!
It was fun while it lasted! One trip with the trailer and the car is out for the count. On the way home, I started to notice a whine while I had the clutch in, driving was fine, but at the stop signs and just shifting in general it was audible. Rode the motorcycle on Monday because it was nice out and then drove the car this morning. I was now listening for the whine and it was getting louder. Came home, did a short drive to crossfit and it was dying when I would try to shift into first. I didn't even think it would hold out until I got home. So it's getting parked and I'm motorcycle riding. The backup plan I mentioned above fell through. They decided it would be too much work for anyone and let the wrecking yard or whoever take it. Would have been a nice option for me and sucks they didn't even call and ask if I was sure I was going to gamble on $1200, oh well, maybe for the better. Forecast is calling for rain all week, so this should be fun
Anyways, from what I gather. Gonna order an exedy 08020 clutch kit from amazon, should be here on Friday thanks to a friend with a prime account. The clutch kit is wagon specific, but everywhere I've read is that I need the RT specific bearing as well, so I'm searching for part number: 22810-PH8-008. I've found it online in one place and they want almost $70, I'll wait until tomorrow morning to call the local honda dealers and see what they have to say, if all else fails, I'll have to pick up that one, grrrrr. I would love to do both axles at this point, but just not in the budget I don't think.
Picked up the bearing from eBay and it got here today, along with the exedy clutch, so parts are a good, unless something comes up. Oh wait, taking the damn lug nuts off and I snap one, great. That wheel was missing a lug nut already, so I guess I kinda have a backup, but I need to get it replaced. I've been thinking about taking off my plastic wheel caps anyways, just since my wheels look like shit right now and I'm afraid to break them or something stupid.
Anyways, tranny is draining right now and then it's time to start undoing bolts, not excited for this at all. I swear every video/guide/walkthrough makes it seems like there is 10 bolts and then it's falling out of the car, but when I'm under there and looking up, I'm overwhelmed.
So yeah, rambling, whatever, I'll post back once the damn thing is back in and purring and ready for more trips to the ocean with jetski in tow
Well, I pussed out. I got most of the tranny dropped, which included most of the motor being dropped and then get cold feet. I called up a good friend and he came and picked it up, dropped in a SOHC ZC motor I had, new clutch, new axles and got me back on the road. Did a quick trip to Longview and back, which was about 300 miles round trip, lots of 80mph driving and everything seems fine. Still pretty gutless, but I have no idea how many miles were on the ZC I got form turbo_teg. All I know is that it's working for now.
Now the questions becomes, do I do a complete rebuild of the A6? Or find something else to drop in with a little more power. I'm not looking for turbo bullshit, just looking for something that will tow my jetski, get me up the hills in the northwest, get decent MPG and remain reliable. I'm somewhat limited thanks to the RT4WD and the midshaft, so we'll see. I'm thinking rebuild the A6, some mild motor work, nothing aggressive and have it ready to drop in the car by next summer or so.
Short term, looking at doing some cosmetic shit. Repaint my wheels, fix the finder and other dents and fix the leaks in the back end...
