1990 Honda Civic Sedan back to Stock conversion.
tizon
Band Wagon
So here is the way she sits right now, riding on cheap ebay coilovers and stock struts. Its really cool looking but it is one hell of a bumpy ride.
My plans are to lift her back up to stock height and make her a little bit more road worthy. The roads down here in South Texas are horrible,
I drag/scrape/bounce off every little thing driving around here. SO, I have ordered some new suspension parts which will be coming in soon.
Here is under the hood, (doing tune up), There is more to this car than meets the eye.
Whats more? The last owner ran an on/off switch to the Fuel pump...said he lived in a bad neighborhood...I want to get rid of this on off but check out this wiring!?!
This little orange wire is running to the switch, then there is a speaker wire that runs to the fuel pump!
Here is the switch, mounted in the ashtray, be careful if it sits just right it arcs!
Here is another part of the on/off switch "mod"
Also, its running really rich! I wonder if that has anything to do with this? More to come....

Glad to see another sedan posted. I'm down with that black color.
I know, I'm just messin' with you.. to Mexico... wow. Your right, they don't have good roads at all.
I have to admit, I like the way she looks now, real menacing and I get lots of compliments. I think im going to keep the murdered out
A better shot
Here are the new parts that came in!
Stock springs and struts, and a used stock radio. I just realized today that the ricer boy who had the car before me chopped off the radio connector that fits the back of the radio. I haven't done my homework on it yet but i'm sure it shouldn't be too big of a deal. I have bigger issues like the grinding noise going into 3rd, if i double clutch it there is no grind. It also pops out of 2nd if you don't have your hand on it.
Hopefully, I can get some work done on the car this weekend. Possibly some suspension rebuild party pics.
The tube was .49 cents a foot, the old stock stuff was real brittle. I was able to use a lighter and re-use some of it
I didn't realize how much I missed those nozzles until they weren't there!
To my dismay, BOTH the filler bolt and the drain bolt were hand tight! Nothing drained out of the filler when I opened it, and when I pulled the drain a black sludge came out. Here is a photo after I cleaned up and reinstalled a very dirty drain bolt, it was caked with sand!
Anyways, I was hoping that the new tranny fluid might cure the grinding going into 3rd. Unfortunately it is still grinding, its not much of a grind, it still goes into 3rd but for .5 second it grinds. Still can't cruise 2nd either without it popping out. All in all, i'm stoked at how easy the job was. Also kinda hoping that I might have fixed the leak she has. So Im guessing now that I'm going to have to replace the clutch, so I'm going to be doing some homework on that.
Stereo update: I found a radio stereo reverse wiring harness on ebay for a buck. so i cant wait to have some tunes goin on!
Also, it looks like i might not have the stock gas tank on this car, hence the fancy on/off switch....haven't verified this yet just a hunch.
But on the lighter side, I went for a cruise today out to the island, and averaged 42.6mpg! So im stoked on that.
I keep posting on this site even though I don't have a wagon, but after searching alot of the different sites out there, I have to say I like this one the best. Maybe it's because i used to own a wagon too:rolleyes:
THANKS!!! I don't think it will be that big of a deal. I mean if it can be done, it can be un-done:encouragement:
anyways, here is great picture of my broken corner light
found out the stink in the cab is coming from the leaky trunk, there was standing water, i guess its weather striping time
Yeah thats the way I like to think of it too! Yeah the last owners really ragged her out... Anyways here is a few updates
The suspension back to stock conversion turned out to be a whole weekend deal...my friend who has a nice garage and a bunch of tools said I could work on her at his place if I helped move a pool table. So i said sure. Word of advice, don't ever help someone move a pool table. Anyways we moved that SOB and then we got started on the sedan. There was a bunch of people over to play on the new pool table so the next thing i know I have like 5 guys helping me work on the Honda.
I thought hey, we are going to have this done in no time! Well, that turned out to be a problem. Before anyone could see the label on the box for the new springs they were being compressed on. Anyways, we got to drinking and the lights in the garage didn't work and it got dark. We finished and lowered the car down, and it looked like a funny car! Im not going to post some of the most embarrasing photos but you can imagine:|. Anyways, it was late and i was tired so i just drove her home like a funny car. We went back to work on her the next day and put the right springs on the correct side. Anyways, she sure is driving nice and smooth now and looks normal.
Also, I have been getting things ready for the new radio harness to come in. After a little inspection I noticed that these wires were spliced 2 times.
Yeah they look brittle and cracked, they really need to be taken apart and put back together tight
This was my first time installing a radio and I finally got it figured out after doing the proper homework...
Im going to get some q-tips and some alcohol to clean off all of the filth on the radio...
but at least I have some jams now!
SO, future plans from here. Like i said I want to be able to ride this hog down into deep mainland mex, so I want this car to be as dependable as a guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. That being said, I am going to be on the lookout for another D series tranny that I can rebuild and another clutch. I would like to pull the engine and just overhaul the whole damn thing, but I think Im just going to drive this tranny in to the dirt. If it aint broke don't fix it, right! Well that doesn't really apply when you are on a mexican highway in the middle of BFE! so im going to do some test runs up to north texas and see how she holds up on the highway
I want a Yakima rack for surfboards and bikes. But the seem to be a little rare.
I think im going to get rid of the cheap ass "cold air intake" and find another stock airbox/filter.
Just ordered another windshield washer resevoir as the old one was cracked open, probably due to being slammed on cheap ass ebay coilovers.
Let me know if anyone sees a tranny!
Yeah, its not a crucial part of the car anyways, best to wait for the right one to show up.
Here is the ON/OFF switch for the fuel tank, just mounted it in that little space. gives it a cleaner look that in the ashtray.
Hella flush
I don't know how in the heck im going to get the sand from out of here...
The old one was toast.
It was my first time taking the front bumper off which didn't turn out to be too big of a deal after all. The bumper that is currently on it is pretty rough too, but im not too concerned about all the superficial details as of yet. That resevoir was kind of a PITA to put back in because of the A/C system, but it worked out.
No, its gray.
