help with drivetrain rattle at 30-40 mph.

i'm looking to trade for a rt4wd wagon. and this person is telling me the drivetrain makes the car rattle around 30-40 mph. what would make the car rattle like that?

  • a u-joint, out of balance wheel, and a wheel bearing along with other things could make it rattle at a certain speed. see if there is play in the driveshafts, and wheel. or see if he can switch tires front to back, to see if it helps.

    Sounds a lot like the issue I had with my RT4WD, it was a rear driveshaft u-joint. As many here know, the issue with RT4WD driveshaft is that the u-joints are staked in and not (easily) replaceable. But if that turns out to be the problem, they are replaceable as long as the u-joint flanges aren't wrecked.

    The most common things it could be are driveshaft, axles, or tires/balancing.
