obd1 converted! how do I use my A/C and heat?

Hi first time posting!
I have a 90 wagon that I bought earlier this year was running with Obd0 wiring but it was all cut up and couldn't have that

So finally when the motor blew I took it all apart to restore

went to junkyard and picked up a eg dx complete cabin/dash whole car harness lol

Well to get the point I want/need my AC and heater so my question to all of you is how do I get my ac/heater working with the obd1 wiring?

do I have to get an eg climate control?
Do I need the underdash stuff from eg(heater core, blower, etc)?
Or can I use the original underdash stuff and maybe use the eg plugs?
Keep in mind or original climate control uses cables for most of its function or is it the same in an eg?

that's all I can think of for right now.
Thanks in advance

first off, get rid of the double post before you get (prematurely) crucified.

secondly, more details on what car your working on would help. pictures are lovely, too....

thirdly, why would you think an "EG" cabin harness would work in a "EF"? if it were me, id probably try to replace with stock....

    lastly, SEARCH.

welcome to the site. watch your shit and do research before you post..
  • This would be a tough one for anyone to really answer; few replace the interior harness as its not needed for a OBD1 setup. If you're far into that you may be better off sticking with the EG setup - but you will be venturing off into solo territory. Get a helms for each and figure it out is about the only advice I could give for that one. EG doesn't use cables, its electronic. Keep in mind all the cable stuff "could" still work if you ran your own switches to the blower and compressor.

OR, you can do as dude already said and replace your harness with another stock harness and keep it stock so you know how everything will work.

The reason I chose to rewire it with obd1 is I used to have an eg and I'm quite familiar with the wiring and when I finally got my wagon everything looked unfamiliar so there you go

Also I did SEARCH!!! There is no real info out there on ef's with obd1 wiring bcuz when somebody gets the idea to do it, they get shot down by someone saying "its to much work or just buy a conversion harness"

I'm going go get the Underdash climate from an eg and compare them both maybe I can figure it out

Still would like any help or advice if anyone has any thoughts
  • use the blower motor and heater core for whatever underdash heater assembly you are using. the wiring for the blower motor is the same eg and ef. im 90% sure the blower motor resistor is the same. the efs have cables for the vent changing, the egs are push button. personally i would find an ef underdash harness, and plug it back in.

I become well versed with "EF" harnesses then. Especially if you own one now...

I'd just replace with stock, but id also like to see you make an "EG" one work...

I converted my EF to OBD1. Left interior loom well alone, modified a OBD0 engine loom and repinned the ECU plugs. Very little effort and very straight forward
  • I'm converting my wagon to obd1 "the hard way". (Eg wiring with no conversion harness.) I took the stock wagon harness out and de-loomed. Took a ef sedan harness and deloomed it (for power windows, locks, and mirrors). And then took the eg harness and de-loomed it. It is all done except for re-looming I've plugged it in the car and tested it and seems good so far. Engine runs and windows and locks work.

This was definitely the hard way. I spent hours with several different wiring diagrams, I have helms for my 90 wagon and for 95 civic. As well as several haynes manuals. A helms for the sedan would have been nice. I also found a good excel sheet with obd0 to obd1 pinouts for making your own conversion harness. This was the most useful because some of the wiring from the wagon had to be connected to some of the eg wiring.

The heater and blower units from an eg won't bolt into the wagon. Too much difference. There are other things that are not interchangeable as well like wiper motor. Also how are You planning to connect the eg harness to the rear wagon harness and the wagon dash harness? I'm sure you could wire Ef plugs onto the eg harness for this type of stuff. But then your going to end up with a eg harness that is even more hacked up than your stock one.

I think you need to do a lot more homework. I haven't seen anybody do it like I did or like you are talking about, so you probably aren't going to have a lot of luck searching Internet forums for a how to or anyone with experiance on this. You're going to have to go it alone. Good luck. I hope your good at understanding wiring diagrams and good with a soldering iron and shrink wrap. I'm very interested to see if you make it work.
