'86 Wago Love

When I first arrived to the Honda scene I bought a riced out 1991 Honda Crx Si, not the best decision that I have made. Lucky for me the car was only $600 and it ended up being a parts car for my later bought 1990 Crx Dx. This was my welcome to the Honda scene.

This is what the car looked like right before it was completely stripped

So last year October 2011 I found my first Wagon for sale. It was an older model not exactly what I was looking for but I needed another car. The Crx just was not cutting it anymore for the guys night out lol. So for $400 and a 4 hour drive both ways I was the proud owner of a 1986 Honda Civic Wagovan. When I get back to my computer i'll get pictures up of the befores and afters and the treasures I discovered within. So this is what the Wagon looked like the day I went to pick it up.

This was the last mini meet right before the Wagon started suffering problems due to the carb.

Plans:
Swap out the crappy E-series motor
New rims and tires
Full detail clean of the interior
Re-paint the car thinking Blade Silver.

  • So the only update I have right now is that I changed out the steering wheel to a Grant that I had sitting around. Since I plan on sticking with a black and silver theme this should work out perfectly.

Nothing however to update on the carb. tried reinstalling the new one today with no luck. Felt like I was just playing around and had no goal but the wagon has been down for over two months now and I would like to have it back.
  • Whats it doing exactly? Try turning the idle up just to keep it running. Lol I've been having problems with mine too. Was gonna devac and try to find the leak that way but I've been kinda lazy. Plus driving it with a 1700ish idle makes feel like a racecar haha.
  • I'll keep that in mind when I get it back up. As to the problem the carb. was leaking fuel bad and flooding the engine so starting it was a pain.

slap the weber on there.... get rid of that mile and a half of vacuum lines... Maybe she runs a little better. :)
  • That's exactly what I want to do. But for now I have a backup that will replace the original. Then the wagon is getting a ton of touch up and love
  • Tried putting the carb. back together and failed lol forgot to hook back up a coolant line, and two vacuum hoses lol take two tomorrow.
  • Got everything hooked up and can't get the wagon to start.
  • Finally after a month or so of trying the Wagon is back pn the road but having some issues overheating. Gonna wash the radiator and flush it. Check the wires for the fan and replace the thermostat hopefully that will fix the problem after i re-bleed the system. I'll get more pictures up later today I'm hoping.

Overheating might be linked to your timing... be sure and re-shoot the timing with that new carb on there. :)
  • Good to know i'll look at that as well then.

    Shes beautiful!!
  • I'll be updating the thread with pictures tomorrow. And finally showing the awesomeness that came with my wagon.
  • Great to see another 3rd gen, the interior looks good, but dirty :D
  • Interior is rough in some areas but hoping to fix that soon.
  • Here are the pictures that I promised.

This is what came with the car when I bought it. Full records from the day it was bought till when it got sold I never mentioned that I am the third owner of this 1986 Wagovan.

And it also had an already installed under the seat tray needs cleaned though just like a good majority of the interior.
    239.jpg
Seats where a little rough like I said mainly the driver seat so I am thinking seat covers or I might potentially have them reupholstered.
    240.jpg
I am also in the middle of taking care of some rust around the gas lid door and repainting the whole car so the really rough areas have been primered.

    242.jpg
I also managed to aquire a Rosewood authentic Honda shift knob

  • New thermostat for the wagon today, new struts all the way around tomorrow and my Crx is also getting some work done

Love it, feels amazing and its not super heavy.
UPDATE Fixing the thermostat and flushing the radiator fixed my overheating issue.
  • The wagon no longer overheats, but when I went to get the struts done on the Wagon they could only do the rears so I passed so I could continue to look for a full set.

i will keep my eyes out at the junk yard for a new gas tank cover for you... easier to find one at a junk yard than to do body work...

Sweet man I really appreciate it. Raced a 2009 Scion tc out of a light cause they wanted to run them. For 264300 miles on an Ew1 original all stock motor I whooped their tails lol funniest faces ever.

Headlamps can be sourced from any 86/87 civic, sedan or wagon, not crx (different shape) you will use only the glass housing, none of the brackets, due to them being specific to the model.

    What are you talking about?
  • Wagon got its first bath today in over a year and a half.
  • I found a set of Tokico blue struts for the front and rear of the wagon does anyone know if they will work? The front suspension confuses me because there are no springs.

I really appreciate it, selling off my Crx and B16 swapping the wagon.
  • do your research first. what I've found is the only motor that will swap and keep it 4wd is a first gen integra dohc d16. thats the plan for my 87rt. these wagons are a completly different breed.

Mine isn't all wheel drive just two wheel so the b16 should swap fine with the proper components.

Wagon engine bays are wider than hatch or crx
