Panda cars are often refereed to because they are white and black. It started back in the day with the Toyota corolla, or the "eight-six", or the hachiroku. Just a name people came up with for a White car with black moldings and such..

Let's see... slow moving, oddly shaped, white and black coloration, almost extinct, and has a highly devoted fan base.

Attempt #2 of gas tank rust removal has begun... filled her to the top with apple cider vinegar today. Really excited to see how it turns out. Naturally I wanted to test the method before wasting $40 on the vinegar to fill it. Here's pics from my test on the exhaust manifold bolts. 96 hours of total soak time. Changed the vinegar after 48. Haven't decided if I want to spend another $40 on another fill of vinegar... but I do want to ensure results like these...

The results pretty much speak for themselves. I'm just hoping it works as well in my tank :)

What $40 worth of empty gallons of vinegar look like lol

The stock wheels had a bunch of surface rust. But the tires are in amazing shape. So I sprung for some $8 wheel paint from O'Reilly's. Probably all she'll get cosmetically until Spring. But feel it looks 100x better. I won't lie, if I can find some cheap springs locally I'll probably lower it. Even though I'm planning some higher end suspension come Spring. She'll just be sitting in my driveway. Might as well be on the ground lol

After soaking for nearly a week, I decided it was time to rinse her out. I probably filled and empty it probably 15 times total. So I went through a lot of water to say the least. I did it on a clean slab of concrete in my driveway. Then I rinsed it out like panning for gold. When bits stopped coming out, I rinsed her (fill and empty) probably 3 more times. Then also did some tilted and angled rinses to get in the corners to be sure.

All in all I'm impressed to say the least. I wish I wasn't on a budget and time crunch, but I am. Come spring when the car goes down for a bit, I'll likely drop the tank again, and repeat. Followed by sealer. I'm going on vacation in a couple of weeks, and not willing to throw another $100 at it until after. Not to mention our shitty weather has finally arrived. I'm basically just getting done what I can until then. When she likely gets parked until thaw.

    Pics post vinegar...

No worries! Jealous you're going to Phoenix. I'm tired of the rain. I wish oregon was just sun sun sun then BOOM...snow.
  • I get to look foward to this next week. :|

That is pretty much how Reno is... And it gets old quick.. Either too hot or too cold.

    Minor update...

Came home from Phoenix to snow. Scared and excited me at the same time. Thought about selling it, and realized I needed to put all the parts on and get it running first. After getting these couple things on that I had laying around, I decided to keep it for now. It's just too fucking clean!

Trying to make up my mind with what to do with the tank. It's too cold out for me to re-seal it myself now. And I can't imagine what a shop would charge me. So I've been looking for another tank. As luck would have it, there's actually two wagons in the yards in Spokane right now. But the yards punch holes in them to drain them. Which would put me in a whole other repair category. Lame.

Had a 1st gen Integra lip, wrinkle white valve cover, and a 70's steering wheel sitting in my room for a couple months. Finally decided to install...

Best lip IMO, used a heat gun to roll the edges (done on Nancy too)

VC turned out really really well. Used VHT wrinkle paint. Baked in the oven. Then used Krylon on top. Finished by sanding the letters. They don't pop well in the pics, but looks good in person. My first VC. Really happy with it...

    Got a little dirty installing

Finally one of my fav mods- 70's steering wheel. I have a two spoke in my 88 RT. There are some clearance issues with the turn signals. Eventually learn to just not hit it anymore. But this three spoke in the 91 2wd clears much much better. Not sure if it's the wheels or the car. But it's better, and will stay on here. I'm taking the two spoke one out of my RT.

It just bolts on. Just like your regular steering wheel.

Progress stalled out in the fall for a lot of reasons. One major being I'm a giant bitch with the shitty weather. The car being parked outside, it's been covered in snow for a while. Was also trying to move back to Arizona for a while, but thankfully got a good new job. So I'll be sticking around in Spokane long term. I'll also be keeping both cars. Which makes me uber happy!

One great perk of my new job is a place to keep a car. Many of my co-workers keep their projects at work. I've been there for a month now, and now that the snow is thawing, we decided to move while we had some decent weather.

The tank has rusted some since the apple cider vinegar assault. I'm gonna do it again. And seal it this time. So realistically it'll be a couple weeks before she's ready to go back in. Hopefully things go well and won't need much else to be road worthy.
