89 civic sedan RT/4wd??????

Hello All,

ok first off, NOT A WAGON OWNER YET! but i own a 89 civic sedan and would like some ideas or help in making it a RT/4wd... i figure length about the same? not much cutting needed? MOST parts inter-changable ? Keeping rear disk brakes shouldnt be difficult?(dc2 rear disk breaks) i was hoping the wagon family can help cousin sedan? :encouragement::encouragement::encouragement: i've seen it done on a hatch and seems like some work just wondering if it would be the same work in a sedan ... any help greatly appreciated...

these cars were offered in that configuration in Japan, but converting would be a LOT of fabwork. If you have a full shop and a complete donorcar, Id go for it. If you didnt have either one of those items, this swap would nickle and dime you to death. theres numorous threads around the nets of people converting crx's, hatch's, and del sol's to awd, youd have to do all the same things. Go look up some of those threads and decide from there.

and as far as brakes go, theres people that sell what youd need to keep the rear disks. or if you have a shop, you can make what you need to keep them as well.

Well i have a donor car i just havent picked it up .... Ive seen the crx hatch and del sol setups i was just hoping since the sedan and wagon are the same length i just have to worry about mounting or fabricating mounts.... I have not done my full home work just hoping someone new or has tried it with the sedan. Ill probly double check the wagon amd sedan to see how different it actually is .... And see if its worth my while.... It would be a nice lil feature to have in the sedan :D

There's a thread in members rides that shows converting a 2wd wagon to rt. I think his name is chadcouch. It can give you an idea of what's involved. Wouldn't call it a simple bolt in. There's some work in involved. But if you have a complete donor, you have everything you need.

Sedan rear subframe will have to be completly custom, very very different from a Wagon

Pretty sure all 4 versions of the EF have the same wheelbase. Not positive, but I think Ive measured it out before. Either way, like mentioned, all the tunnel will have to be replaced and youll have to fab from scratch the rear diff hanger OR fab in the entire setup from the wagon. Not an easy process. Nobody is saying not do it, were just letting you know it wont be an easy task by any means. Hell it will be legal to import the awd sedans here in the next few years and honestly, it will more than likley take you (it would me with job, wife, etc) that long and that much money to convert anyway. wait and just buy a rhd one when thier legal ;)

I looked into this around 92-93 cause I wanted to do the same thing. Money and lack of tooling kept me from doing it. lol, also wanted to incorporate the aws from the earlier preludes. 10 years later when doing my awd gsr wagon, I was going to attempt the same thing and had a prelude lined up, but got talked out of it by a handfull of honda techs that explained how problematic/expensive the aws stuff was.
