  • Yea I'm spraying the whole car with rustoleum spray cans (white and clear) everything is done by hand I think the only power tools that I have used was a dermal to cut the rust out of the rear quarters and a 20 dollar buffer from Walmart. All of the sanding was done with a sanding block and sandpaper. I have to redo the rear passengers door the clear ran a little :( but I think I have 50 dollars invested into the paint supplies. I'm going to cut the sidemarker in today as well. Game plan is to dump it put some rims and tires on it and enjoy till the engine goes 240,000 miles and swap it for a D16z6 that's about it stay tuned for more
  • Daang the wite tuck looks dope.
  • Man, I love reading your thread. Keep up the great work!

    You sir are my inspiration!
  • if you wet sand the run with real fine sand paper and then buff you may be able to prevent yourself from a respray.
  • Lil more tonight
I painted my side skirts, mirror and front window trim the back door was reprinted tonight and its cold out so I can't finish it tonight...
    220.jpg

i used spray bedliner for the window trim extra hardy and looks oem. Side note try this on something else first befor attempting the trim it comes out diffrent than anything ive ever used. I know this cuz I use it all the time and I used it as the under coating for the wagon too ;)
    221.jpg

Patched all the holes today...don't judge this works and doesn't crack!! The epoxy is what holds modern ford truck beds on to the box... yea supper strong I just cut a patch and put it in over the wiper hole and I gotta add my 2 cents to everything haha that's for the "H" badge
    222.jpg

last is no more rust (same thing on the other side) magnets are holding it flush with the body till she dries
    223.jpg
    224.jpg

my spoiler got its last coat of fiberglass it's soo close but u get no pics till its done :)

Dude I love your wagon and appreciate the input!!! Haha the runs were super bad and it had to be done I sprayed it when it was too cold out I got excited and couldn't wait but I payed the price and it set me back 2 days no biggie.
  • looks amazing man, cant wait to see more!
  • you really come up with some creative ass stuff man hahah love the magnets
  • So I made a oops today I was finishing up the rear door and went to grab the clear and just sprayed it white... FML now I gotta wait for it to dry and then I can sand and CLEAR it haha

so here's the rear hatch progress it took about 3 coats of evercoat but with sanding its about 1/8 Inch deep so no big deal
    first
    248.jpg
    After sanding

Nice work, man. You're really going after it!

A word of advice: don't use the spray bedliner for the door moldings. I used it for the bumpers and trim on my gold car, and was pleased with the results everywhere EXCEPT the door trims. Something in the makeup of the spray didn't agree with the rubbery skin on those. It never fully dried and is still gummy. Besides that, it won't come clean. All the dirt just stays in that tacky coating.

Your results may vary. I used Duplicolor, maybe a different brand would be better.

Man this is a amazing job, really love that burned wood finish for your cargo cover and the streering wheel to compliment it, this thread really motivated me to try and restore anything I can on my wagon *thumps up* (might bother you a little later for some advice when I start my build) can't wait to see the end result

Appreciate the input I had the same results in my truck so that's why I put down the white as a base and then skuffed it up to help it bond I didn't do the actual rubber door trim because its too flexible and would crack. Ill keep you guys posted for results. It means alot to me when the guys that have been around wagons for awhile give me compliments must mean I'm doing something right haha thanks again!

  • So you did how many coats of clear? What grits did you wet sand with? After wet sand you just pollished?

I did 2 coats of white let dry for a day then no sanding then 3 coats of clear sand light with 320 dry then wetsand with 800,1000,2000 then use the mothers compound

Did you let the clear set for a night?
  • i would let the white sit for a hour between coats and about 10 min between clear coats. Clear dries to the touch in about 10 min but give it a hour befor you do the sanding.
  • ;) soooo good!

  • I went to bestbuy and just wanted like 16ft of 6 guage wire an a power block to relocate my battery and they wanted $120 for a amp kit and 30 for the block tought na ill pass. Went to Walmart at 2am (switch schedules) so I bought supplies to make my own

i thought I had a pic without the gun but I guess I don't. I'm not a hard ass it's just my carry. It made my wife laugh because I carried it into the house with the Walmart bag lol
    286.jpg
Kit at the top is to run from the battery in the back to under the glove box and the use the kit on the right has the power block so one will run to the fuse box and one to the starter ill take some pics of the installation.
