I have been a huge fan of the civic wagon for a long time. Im not the best writer so ill mostly stick to pictures .so after about 5 years things fell into place and i found one about 4 hours away. I called the guy around 9:30 at night and told him that i wanted i here is the craigslist add

wheeled it into the garage and started working. I wanted this car to be a complete DIY car so if you have any questions please ask and ill do the best i can to help. the first thing i did (brcause i was broke) was the bumper.

here you can see a big cut in the bumper
17.jpg
take a saudering gun and melt it down use long strokes ( easy to sand)
18.jpg
after sanding
19.jpg
melted plastic in the plate holes the same way and sanded
20.jpg
and painted with rustoleum before you judge watch this

i know it w dx and this isnt the propper paint rt4wd bla bla
21.jpg

then moved to the rear bumper the bumper was sagging in the corners
22.jpg
after a heat gun it pulled right out
23.jpg
also painted the rear

engine bay before
24.jpg
after

no big deal i know buth the plan is to keep the SOHC and do a full wire tuck (just clean)

take the tail light out and trim piece off and start heating up the area (dont melt it) and then take a rag and reach where the tail light was and pull up on the bumper after you get it to where you want it put cold water on the bumper, it will help harden the abs plastic.
  • Good find man. Good work on the bumpers.

^in for more painting results!! like the tinted front lights. dont much care for that lip; just a personal opinion, but if you dont have a first gen teg or civic si lip, i do not approve... lols.. but still in for more...
  • ^ agreed im not really feeling the lip either i hate the fit of it,but it was free so i thought id try it out. I have 4 cars now and our first child on the way so i have to wait for bigger items untill december when my friend buys my 89 4runner. i need to paint the bumper trim but i spent some cash today buying some parts haha i post them up tonight. amazing deal. thanks for your imput billboard

^just watch your local junk yards; you should be able to pull a first gen teg lip for 5-10 dollars...
  • Went to the junkyard today and pulled some major parts for the wagon today hatch, hood, drivers door, rear drivers door, rear passangers door, carpet front and rear a ton of random pieces total cost $200 dollars

  • Props. I am a backyard mechanic so I love to see people doing there own work. Car is looking clean. I have a son just so you know after the baby comes your focus is going to be on the baby for the first year and less on the cars. I want to paint my bumper that same color, did you sand and prime it first or just use rustoleum? Can't watch the video right now
  • I know I'm not going to be able to focus on the car as much as I would like but want to get the outside body done and I modify as time goes on.I used 400grit sandpaper to rough up the area and use rustoleum enamel. The video is worth your time if you get a min
  • Hood lined up perfect
    63.jpg
  • Another small DIY tint removal

Here you can see how the old purple tint is peeling
    74.jpg
went to Walmart and got a fabric steamer hold it over the tint for about 10 seconds the steam will release all the stickyness with the tint film
    75.jpg
then scrap the area with a razor
    76.jpg
and about 15 min your done
    77.jpg
i also did my rear doors
  • Drives side door jams done
    120.jpg
  • Doors hung need to be spaced a little better. Door is primed not painted gotta finish the other body work befor I paint the exterior
    152.jpg
inside doors painted needs weather stripping back on
    153.jpg
now I gotta do the other side lol

nice work i have never seen some one do this much paint work out of a can it is look great
  • Did a ton of work today but here is my favorite so far. I really like the look of the old factory radio I saved from the junk yard, eveyome seems to upgrade to a cd player but who uses cd's anymore lol. The only thing I listen to is pandora and my iPod. So here is my idea take a stock radio hack into the tape player and adapt a audio jack.
    176.jpg
Unscrew 4 screws and take off the top cover and you will look into this
    177.jpg
locate the wires coming from the tape reader head cut them away from the reader
    178.jpg
Strip one end of the audio jack and wire it in and Tada you have a old school radio w/ a iPod input
  • P.s. you need a cassette tape to fool the radio to play the iPod
  • Rear is done still have a long way to go
    325.jpg
  • so heres a little update...

I painted the rear plate holder I figured why not i have three haha
    33.jpg

here she is all sanded down.
    34.jpg

Im have no experience with body repair just watched a bunch of youtube videos and ordered the stuff so 60 dollars and a week later I started doing the body work turns out one of my neighbors does it for a living haha. he came over and gave me a quick lesson and said i was doing a pretty good job
    35.jpg

    ton of fenderwork
    36.jpg

    shaved the front honda logo
    37.jpg

    shaving a few more things
    hood squirters
    trunk lock
    and rear window wiper

tell me what you guys think. bodywork was pretty easy and took me about a day.

Damn I totally forgot to take it off before I took the pics. It's kinda a side project i was working on last week I didn't wanna post it yet until it's done, but I guess I'll let you guys know I've been working on a duckbill spoiler. It's made outta styrofoam Planning on fiberglassing in the next month. NO PROMISES but depending on how much interest I get outta it I might make a FEW. I've never fiberglassed anything but Ill give it a shot. The whole point of the car is to learn how to do everything. I'm a intelligence nerd for the Air Force so I gotta get outta my cubical and get dirty. I'm going to make some Window visors if the spoiler works out the way I want it too.

  • Worked on the fenders tonight

Here you can see all the filler sanded down
    51.jpg
    Primered
    52.jpg
    Painted
    53.jpg
Here you can see some scratches that showed through so I wet sanded the fender that will determine a good paint job from a bad one. Everyone here's the term "orange peel" the term refers to the paint having bumps and valleys if you wet sand the paint it will appear flat then you clear it and buff and polish it and Tada amazing paint haha but I'm not there yet
    54.jpg
Here is what I ended with this is only wet sanded and dried off
    55.jpg
left painted and right wet sanded
    56.jpg

That all I really got this week guys and gals remember I'm doing this off a 100 dollars a paycheck but I'm always on here even tho I don't post much please ask questions Im more than willing to help!!
  • RMannRMann Band Wagon
Very nice work, I'm in the beginning stages of my wagon as well so this is fun to watch. If your duckbill is successful I would be interested:smug:
  • Thought I'd show you guys what you can do with a can of rustoleum paint and wet sanding
    96.jpg
im quite surprised myself can't wait to clear, buff, and polish.
  • if you do make a few of those visors, let me know!
  • love the progress and especially that wing! im in austin and would love to get one if you make another. name your price and ill drive out there to get it!!
