Gonna cost more than 100$ dude, hehe. Regular rear disc swaps start at 150$, don't expect this to be less than 200$ I'm sure. I'm waiting on a guy named Bam Bam to lend me an RT trailing arm. Don't know what he's up to.
  • I have a set of trailing arms laying in the garage. If you need one let me know and I can send it your way.

No need to ship from Germany. We can pull that arm or the pair when you're ready. I just got the core 2wd arms back from the latest 2wd disc set, so we can swap 'em onto that 4wd car.

    Make sense? :?
  • It isn't a problem for me to ship, I don't pay international shipping  So if you can't get to them Bam Bam just let me know.
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
cool, thanks.. BrakeExpert just needs to come and get 'em.

If I'm thinking right, this setup will also serve as a bigger disc setup for the 2wd cars.

I'm not talking about discs and calipers and stuff. Just brackets or w/e that allow use of some type of commonly avail oem brake components. Of course a complete setup would cost more lol
  • BrakeExpertBrakeExpert New Wagonist
yeah I can't guarantee you brackets are gonna be that cheap, I'm not sure. I've still never seen a RT arm.
  • gunsup0331gunsup0331 New Wagonist
If shipping wasn't prohibitive I would send you mine :) not gonna need em for a few months
Then again I could probly figure it out myself before anything got done at the rate this is going haha

I think I priced it out at $300-$400 a set(brackets only) at a machinist. :( It's in me notes somewhere. The cost can be lowered if you're not machining for backing plates or parking brake cables.
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
We talked today, things are moving along. The RT disc thing is just a few items away from the top of my list atm.

    Maybe for a one-off set from a well-known shop...
Once the final dimensions and setup are known its fairly easy to bang out several dozen (or more) for a substantially reduced rate. I think if we had brackets made that allowed bolt-on use of say, Integra calipers with an easily sourced (ie not BMW or something) rotor then there would be demand for at least several hundred sets within the first few months of availability. For those with the time and equipment to accomplish this its a lucrative opportunity provided the final cost to the customer is reasonable. at or near $100 is the median price range in my imagination.
To restate, a one-off set would be perfectly reasonable at several hundo from someone who does fabrication for a living and has no vested interest. But for a dude with access to the proper equipment who doesn't mind spending some time and a little money figuring it out and testing stuff, then it could reap significant reward both for the consumer and producer

Getting the caliper, cables, rotors is the easy part.I seriously doubt one could sell SEVERAL HUNDRED sets. The prob is the adapter is a Wagon specific part. The 2wd & 4WD adapter are totally different from each other.2wd adptr being the cheaper, better seller(more 2wd out there) & easier one to make. There's a guy on Ebay that makes all kinds of rear disc conversion adptrs for all kinds of Honda & Acuras. He blew off one of our members. The market is too small for Wgns.He makes adptrs for a lot of makes from ford to dodge to heavy chevys. There's not even that many 4WDs on this site.I believe Brakexpert's guessimate to be fairly accurate.

If I could sell SEVERAL HUNDRED I'd start production next week.

I don't even think that Ebay guy sells a hundred sets for all Hondas & Acuras combined.I believe 4WD Wgns only account for less than 1% of Civic sales.

If I were doing a rear disc conversion(RDC) kit I'd be doing a Honda Fit( JAZZ ) RDC.They sold more JAZZs in the first year than total Civic Wagon production(usdm).

So will you be making a limited run at a premium price?

We're getting to it. I just now got the RTAs off the parts car to use for the prototype.

Spoke to BrakeExpert tonight, tossed around some ideas. He'll come up with something, this cat's like an encyclopedia of brake specs.

I think that the end result will fit both 2wd and 4wd wagons.

NO they're different enough that it will need 2 different kits( 2WD & 4WD).I tried already. The 2WD design will be easier.I hope I wrote it down somewhere?

OK, thanks. I was just thinking that if we had a bracket/caliper/rotor that cleared the 4wd RTA, it would also fit the 2wd.
    What's different, hub offset?
  • SiWagonSiWagon Council Member
The center hubs are very different. It's been 2 years since I thought about this.My original thought was it was easier to make the 4WD brkt, but it turns out the 2WD brkt is cheaper to design. The good news both 2 & 4WD designs can use the same rotors, clprs, cbles and possibly ABS sensors.

didnt someone just use something like 86 prelude rear calipers on there disc break swap'd RT? my set-up works but it has its draw backs and i still havent had time to add an E-brake.

    Here you go turbo_teg
I used 84 Prelude calipers and 85 ish Pulsar rotors. Made custom brackets. They work pretty well but the parking brake is wont hold on steep hills. Also, the parking brake freezes up after I've driven in the snow and parked it over night with the brake on.

thanx i couldnt find it again.

mine with the EP3 rotors is workin ok but i need to move the caliper away from the rotor just a hair or the lil spring metal that keeps the pads in place quit rubbing the rotor. or i could just take it in and turn the rotors on a drum lathe that cut side to side and take a lil off the rotors edge....

either way i wish someone would build something simple cuz i would like to run a DA rear rotor but im kinda stuck with what i gots.
