89 RT converted to 2wd

ok ive searched and found a little info, but need to know if the rear diff, axles are pulled out will this cause problems? confused. I am getting an rt without tranny all it has is drive shaft back (axles diff etc.) well if he keeps that stuff its really cheap but dont wanna get screwed if the rear will get messed up. Or pay alittl more just put a 2wd tranny in and take off drive shaft? Thanks in advance.

Since the site change over I don't know what threads or posts got axed? The answer was on the pre-change forum.I didn't understand your question, but will try to answer it.Just unbolt the center axles from the front tranny back to the diff. Diff .& rear axles(diff. 2 whl.) can be left to place w/o harm. If you want max perf & mpg ,then remove diff & rr axles.

Tip: If you do leave the diff in replace the diff oil with the newer lower friction diff oils for 2 reasons.1)Probably has never been replaced.2)Your gas mileage(mpg) will go up.Old oil has probably thickened & newer oil is lower friction.

if i remember correctly you have to weld on the top transmission mount, the rt one is different and you have to cut the hole for the shift linkage

You can remove the rear diff and axles if you pull the outers off axles and leave them bolted in the hubs. That will help remove some of the friction of the diff and axles spinning at highway speeds.
