RT4WD transmission rebuild

Hi All,

Im just wondering what are the options out there for rebuilding a manual 89 RT4WD gearbox?

As you can see you cannot get OEM parts due to them being discontinued

#8 & 9 discontinued

#7 shows as still avaliable

will these synchros fit the gearbox?

also will i be able to use the FWD L3 gearbox synchro hubs + gears?

If there is a thread out there already discussing this then please close this one :)

thanks!!

crunch 2nd sometimes, everything else is good. no bearing noises. Maybe its a issue with the shifter cables, stretched?

From what I've gathered, those won't work.... However, I don't know for sure....in for someone who can confirm.

As far as i know the FWD and 4WD gear ratios are the same? So im hoping since they are the same gear rations and our box is marked L3 any L3 synchros should work.

I might be getting my hands on a rebuild box soon from a wrecking yard, so i might have a shot at taking my old one apart and possibly comparing it to the FWD L3 box.

Any more info as to why they wont work FakeJDMEF8?

I have no experience with them at all, but everything I read (well, ffrom members I trust and know their shit) say that it won't work. Others say any Honda 1-5 will work but the SL is different (duh)...

Id kill for some concrete info. As I'm sure you all would as well. My trans only grinds downshifting from 3rd to 2nd if I don't finesse it....

About to install the short shift box and mess with the cables, so we will see

    How did you go?

Ive since replaced my gearbox oil and added an additive to help shifts, it hasn't been grinding since :)

I will still look into getting a rebuilt box when i change the engine over.

Nope, replaced oil three times already, no such luck. She still grindz like a slut. I'm currently trying to find a replacement or try the JDM hydro instead. Have the hush22 kit so I should anyways!

Anyone have any more info on the rebuild of the cable awd trans?!?

Ok so it looks like the 2nd gear can still be purchased new, it seems 2nd gear is the most common problem.

I don't know if you can do this, but over here we can put in a remake request for discontinued parts through our local dealership. The request for the part goes to Honda Japan and the decide if it's worth remaking the part. Last year I had about 5-6 different parts remade by Honda Japan for me.
